HR for facility. Not for employees.

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I work in a toxic environment where nurses gossip about each other and hate each other. in my 23 years of practice I have never worked in such a toxic environment where I dread going to work. All these things are considered professional misconduct. These nurses watch every move you make, file incident reports and when these reports go to HR.

I feel as if I am going to lose my license to practice! In this facility, HR is not for the staff, it's for the institution. I have already been told by the HR director that I have no rights when I injure my shoulder and could not work.

i have already been to a peer review committee in which I was targeted as the "bad" nurse who sent a pt to icu due to changes in clinical status. I felt I was being reprimanded for doing the right thing. The day nurse whom gave me report never said a word!

Now some of my nurses notes are missing. What should I do if the case were to go to court and have no nurses documented to protect my license because the facility does not have a reliable computer system?? I have already contacted risk management and they are unable to locate my notes? I feel like I'm being sabatoged!

Help !!

Are you unable to find another job?

Sounds awful. You need to file a formal complaint with several parties. Hopefully at least 1 or 2 of the complaints will survive the chart culling that seems to be happening.

State the facts, including that your original notes appear lost or misplaced, thus you are rewriting them.

Keep a copy in your work locker (this is likely not really kosher. Let NO ONE know they are there. but do not remove anything from the premises.

Find a new job. Right away.

HR and Central Supply (or whatever you call it at your facility) are principally the same thing only one deals with materiel and the other deals with humans. Neither care one whit about what they are doling out as long as they are doing the job in a way that benefits the facility and costs less. HR's primary and only responsibility is to the institution. They are not and never will be your friend. In fact, if you try to engage them to help deal with a problem they will see YOU as the problem and will do everything within their power to get rid of you. I wish I had learned this sooner than I did. It would have made my first few years of nursing go a lot smoother.

THIS! HR are not on your side, and if you start making waves they will make sure they mitigate it to quieten you down. Only thing you can do is leave. It won't change and there's not a thing you can do about it without severely compromising yourself. Do not burn any bridges and never ever let them know how you feel. Smile through gritted teeth if you have to, but suck it up until you can find another job.

Did you file a workers comp claim when you first injured your shoulder? Sometimes you have to get an attorney if you are being denied workers comp. I don't understand why you are in trouble for transferring someone to ICU. Better the patient transferred than code on the floor! This has happened where I work because we are getting ICU patients when they are short on nurses in ICU, which is all the time since they are leaving in droves and also we are forced to hold pt's that have a transfer to ICU order until they scramble and find a nurse to take them. I honestly don't understand how corporate doesn't realize you can't run a hospital without ICU nurses! It seems I too am working for Wrongway Regional Medical Center!

Time to move on.

Past time to move on. The day after I found out that my charting was missing, I would have hit the bricks looking for a new employer.

Without a Union to go up against HR you got nothing.

Stop whining and complaining. Everything you say will be used against you. And they ARE out to get you. Company needs are prioritized way above yours.

Keep your head down and move on.
