How do your students address you?

Published

I'm going to be working out of the hospital for the first time and in an elementary school and was wondering how you normally have students address you?

I have a hard to say hyphenated name and in NICU world, I always introduced myself to parents as by my first name and that I was the nurse taking care of their child.

When I did a stint in pediatrics I introduced myself to the children as "Nurse FIRST NAME."

I know that titles and formality are more common in schools but even the administrator who hired me can't seem to say my last name so was just curious if most people go by Mr/Ms. Last Name. If so, does anyone else have harder to say names and how do they handle that??

Looking forward to having this board and I wade into unfamiliar waters ....

The kinder kids call me, "doctor" which is funny.

Me too!! I think it's super cute.

My principal really wanted the kids and staff call me Nurse LastName or Mrs. Last name...But I've spent years being "NurseFirstName" so after a few weeks, most people call me "Nurse" or "Nurse First Name"

I learned that our director of health services REALLY wants us to be addressed that way and a few of the older teachers already have said you really shouldn't go by Nurse River so we shall see how it all shakes out.

Ms XYZ most of the time. As the school year winds down in June, I find some of the seniors will take to calling me by my first name. I don't really care as long as they are respectful.

I'm a bit old fashioned, so I use my last name...but mine it not a hard one! I also go by Nurse "last name" instead of Mrs. "last name" to separate myself from the teachers and administration (the scrubs help too!). You may want to consider using your first name, using only one of your hyphenated names, or even use the initials of your hyphenated name, like Mrs. "MJ" (or whatever your initials are), or first name initial and one of your last name initials....whatever rolls off the tongue the easiest :) Oh...and although I will also respond to "Nurse," like so many of you, I also start calling the person addressing me by their occupation :D

The special ed kids can call me Nurse First name, regular ed use Mrs. Last Name. This isn't elementary though.

I am either Mrs. Lastname or Miss First name, depends on the age of the child. Though my last name is easy to say, it can be a tongue twister for little ones!

Nurse Far, usually.

New one today..."Hello Nurse Man." My response, "Hello Student Boy."

I tell my seniors they can use my first name the second after they receive their diploma at graduation ;).

I'm Ms. LastName, and this is how everyone is addressed at my school. If a student calls me just "Nurse" or "Miss" (no last name, word drawn out), I point to my door where my name is and smile unless they get the hint.

I'm good with Mr. Last name or Nurse Last name but if they address me by "nurse" they immediately become "student."
Exactly what I used to do. Any kid that called me "teacher" was always addressed as "student" in return.

I'm called Ms. Last name, but even though I'm not the nurse, and no matter how many times I corrected kids, they call me the nurse or the doctor. I always introduce myself to the parents as the medical aide or professionally over the phone.
