The wonderful thing about nursing is that it is open to everyone of all ages. Please give a cheer to all the people who believe that age is not a factor in learning. And, to all the people who strive for knowledge regardless of age. How old were you when you started nursing school?

Specializes in CNA 8 yrs LPN 6 geri, chemical dependency.

I was 21 when I started an LPN program I came (thisclose) to finishing, but didn't. I had a stressful bartending job that was a huge appearance based popularity contest and worked way more than I should have. Went back to a different, more humane lol, program at 24 and finally became an LPN at 25, feeling way too old to still be in school. Really wish I could go back and be excited for all those little milestones, instead of feeling like I should have been done ages ago.

Age 51 on gradution with ADN. Mom of 6, Grandma of 3 at the time. Not the most stressful think I've ever done, but 2nd in line....My grades were as good as the students less than half my age.

I'm 28 and start on the 22nd. I will be 31 when I finish. I'm seeking another Bachelor of Science, so I'll make the best of it with my 5 little ones.

Specializes in Neuroscience ICU, CNRN, SCRN.

Nursing is my 2nd career, after working in accounting/finance for 29 years. I started my pre-reqs for my ADN program at 45 years old, and graduated at age 48...30 years after graduating high school! I went back to get my RN to BSN in 2011 and graduated in 2013 at age 57. I turned 60 this past April and will be starting my MSN in Leadership in Nursing in October. Fortunately I now work in Quality so things aren't as physical as they used to be when I worked at the bedside in the SICU. By the way, I really love school and learning, and am a member of Sigma Theta Tau. I'm very much looking forward to starting my 22 month Masters program. And I fully intend to work until I'm 70, or maybe longer as long as I am still physically and mentally up to it. My mom was a paralegal, retired at age 62, was bored to death by age 65, and went back to work until well into her 70s. And she still did real estate closing up until age 80, so I think I have a fine example to live up to!

I start January, and I'll be 25. When I graduate I should be 27, and licensed before i turn 28. hopefully i'll have my bsn by 30.

I was 18 when I started nursing school. Was an RN by age 22! Worked for 24 years before retiring. So much has changed since I started my career. I miss some aspects of nursing care but NOT the endless paperwork. Also never thought nurses were paid accordingly to the responsibility we hold. JMO.

Specializes in LTC, Assisted Living, Surgical Clinic.

Started LPN school at 44 years old. Oldest in my class was in her mid-50's as I recall!

I used to be a dairy farmer/ mom and decided to attempt my diploma of nursing at 46 and graduated at 48, working as an enrolled nurse and now attempting my Bachelor of Nursing at 52 will be 54 if I graduate on time. Sometimes I lose confidence because of my age but I'm perservering and cant wait to be an RN

34 when I start this fall!

I started at the age of 18. Once I graduated from High school in June, I started school in September of that same year, completing pre-reqs for the first year and then starting nursing classes my second year

Specializes in Med Surg/Ortho.

I was 36 when I started my prereqs, and I am 38 now. Starting an ASN this fall. So I will be 40 when I finish.

I started prereqs when I was 30, will finish up by the time I'm 34, and hope to start either an ADN or direct-to-DNP when I'm 35 with the eventual goal to become an NP by the time I'm 40. I have a bachelors and masters in other areas. I love seeing the age ranges here!
