I am just curious. I am 37 and will be taking my last pre-req in January for the nursing program at my local community college. I have noticed many people here are over 30, so I wanted to just blurt out the question. How many of us 30 somethings are making a career change into Nursing?
I'm 37 and making a career change, but I still work in an office for now.
Include me.....I'm 43 and will finish my pre- reqs in the spring 08 for admission to the IU School of Nursing Fall 08. I've spent 20+ years in the investment field. Lost my passion for it. This will be a great career for me going forward. I'm too busy of person to just sit around. I am concerned about the slots available (200) and the applicants (400). At least that what I hear in Indiana.
Hi there,
I am 31 and will be 32 this December, when I first started taking prereqs for the program I thought I would be the oldest there, much to my surprise there were 50 and 60 year olds in my classes. I am now done and I am waiting for my name to be picked. The poster before me was worried about the 200 spots for 400 apps. My program has 80 spots and so far they have 500 apps.
I'm 33 and just started my pre-req's this fall. I have a wonderful, understanding and supportive husband, a beautifull 6 year old daughter, and a lovable little 2 year old son. I love my family, but I just could not see myself staying at home any longer. By the time I am out of school my son will be starting Kindergarten. Maybe I won't be able to come to all the school parties and volenteer for everything under the sun for the kids schools, but if Momma is happy, everyone is happy!
I'm 34 and will be taking my prereqs in January, then applying to the LVN problem at my CC. It's wait listed so I'm not sure when I'll begin. After that, I'll transfer to another branch of the CC where they offer a LVN to RN program. I'm not completely sold on a BSN yet, but I'll probably get there somehow...As I look at it, I'll be at least 41 by the time I'm done. There's still plenty of time!!!
hello all,
I am 33, and in the process of starting classes for my prereqs...before applying for the LPN program at a community college in my area, I will work as LPN for a year(requirement to get into nursing program), and then continue on to pursue RN, and Masters, I am planning to go as far as I need to(keep reading and you will see why I feel this way). I also, currently work in an office, where I am burned out/bored out of my mind.. I know nursing will put some spice back into my career life. You are never too mature to change. Good luck to all of us, 30 and over!!!!! You know they say 30 is the new 20! Go figure, tell that to my thighs, they are definatley 30 something(lol)!:balloons:
I am very excited about this new change, I have always known, the office setting is not where I belong, but you have to work in order to eat, however everything has its own season. Well, it's spring time as far as my career is concerned!
My reason for changing careers, towards nursing, is: I have a 1 year old, and he was diagnosed at 2months, with Hemoglobin SC, which is a form of Sickle Cell. We were told he could have some of the same symptons as a SS patient(crisis), but not has painful, and not all children diagnosed have crisis. GOD, has worked it out!! where, we have not experienced any pain crisis, and have not been to the hospital/er for any reason regarding SC,a nd he will be 1, on Oct.1!The devil is a lie!!!!
This major transistion in my life, led me to begin being even more compassionate for children/babies dealing with major life threatening diseases. And during our visits to the Sickle Cell Clinic, I realized this is what I would love to do as a career, be able to help a child and touch their lives and their families' lives in a way that is beneficial to them. So here I am, on the path to nursing. Does anyone out there know if I would need a special certification to work in a Sickle Cell clinc? That is my goal! Even though my son, will be(I have claimed it) one of the few children that does not suffer from this condition inside of his body, I still believe I have a charge to keep, to all the other babies/children that will and do suffer. Didnt mean to be so long, but becoming a nurse is very important to me, and I tend to get emotional just thinking about how I got here!
I'm joining the club.. I'm 36, mother of 2 (14,11). Been going to school forever, seems like. I finished with all the prerequisites for ADN last year and been applying eversince. First application I got rejected, second i was put in an alternate list, and currently waiting for a letter for my third application. I'm hoping to get in this time. I'm trying to believe of that "third time is the charm" thing.
My goal is to become a nurse before my 40th birthday!
Goodluck to all!
