How many of us 30 somethings are out there?

Published

I am just curious. I am 37 and will be taking my last pre-req in January for the nursing program at my local community college. I have noticed many people here are over 30, so I wanted to just blurt out the question. How many of us 30 somethings are making a career change into Nursing?

I'm 37 and making a career change, but I still work in an office for now.

Good Luck to you all! I just turned 33 yrs old on September 25th...I start school, Jan 18th!! I'm so excited. Heres to all of us 30 & older.....

Hey karen230 I am 32 will be turning 33 in Feb. I am just starting to get all of my prereqs out of the way. I have two semesters left full of them and I am taking a short semester starting in October to get my intro to psy out of the way. I am trying really hard to not have to be put into any developmental classes b/c it has been a while since I have been in of school. I am taking an Algebra refresher course in October as well. I am stressing out about passing my BIO/CHEM assessment test. I have already bought 6 books/study guides to try and get me up to speed. I am hoping I can pass this so I can head straight right into Anatomy and Physiology. I have also been studying with an A&P book as well to get some knowledge of what I will be up against. I am trying to get into the the ADN program by the Spring of 09. Good luck to you all!

i'm starting spring 2008 with a few pre req classes i have left. the semester starts 1/14 and i'm very anxious. let me know how you're first quater goes. we can do this!!!!

I went to college right out of high school, worked for a few years, went to graduate school, worked a few years more (and I'm still working in that field), and decided that nursing would be a good career change for me. So I started nursing school at 33, and just got my RN license at 35! :nurse: What's next? BSN/MSN... then maybe a Ph.D. so I can eventually teach after I've got some years of clinical experience.

I turn 38 this week and am waiting for my spring start acceptance letters. My daughter started kindergarten last month.

I just turned 36 last Friday and I'm doing my pre-reqs. I'm taking Chemistry now, probably Micro in the spring and Anatomy and Physio next year. It seems to be taking forever, but I figure as long as I keep plugging away at it, I'll get there. :)

happy belated birthday to you!!:balloons:

i too am starting back at 35 and getting very excited that i've finally made this decision. i have to go in today to take the placement exams at the college. most of my credits transferred from when i went to college so that helped. just have to take the math and reading placements.

i'm planning on taking a&p 1 and a humanities class next semester. i'm hoping all works out that i'll be able to get into the classes. due to being a new student at the college i have to register after the returning students. hopefully the classes will still be open for the times that i need.

has anyone ever taken a class online? i saw that they offer an online psych course and was thinking about doing that.

I can't remember if I replied to this thread before or not... old age is settign in I suppose... :lol2:

I'm Karen, I'm a 38 year old stay at home mom. I have a 9 year old boy who is autistic, and I have twin daughters who are almost 17 months. Been married to dh for 14 years tomorrow! :smiley_aa :balloons: I have a degree in music but my so-called career has centered around customer service.

I decided to pursue nursing a couple years ago and started taking prereq's online (A&P 1 and 2) while working part time. While I was taking A&P 2 I got pg with my twins so I took a break from school to focus on the pregnancy and then caring for 2 newborns.

I'm in the process of putting together my application materials for a 2nd degree MSN program and hope to start Fall '08, will finish June 2010 if I am accepted and make it through. I'll be almost 41. :gandalf:

I'm pretty sure I want to work in the NICU when I'm done but I reserve the right to change my mind as I go through school and possibly fall in love with some other area of nursing.

I am retaking my A&P sequence because my school won't accept online labs. A&P 1 starts mid November, 2 in the winter and 3 in the spring. Micro I will probably take in the winter, Statistics I will either take in the spring or will test through Excelsior for credit. Haven't decided yet.

Looks like I'm in good company here with the rest of us 30 (and 40) somethings!

Karen

Forget the 30 somethings, I started my college at 48, I am 51 now and will start clinical in January. At the top of my ladder in my current job, so time for a change into a much more rewarding profession. If you put your mind to it, you can do it. I was a D student in high school, in college I have been Dean's list for four semesters, and a PTK member for just as long.

Count me in ladies and gents! I am 30 years old, married and mother of four (13, 10, 4 & 21 months). Since my husband and I fell in love and started our family young, I focused on completing our family and staying home with them before pursing my career. I will complete my AA in Health Administration this December and begin my nursing pre-requisites (has some completed) in January. Due to extensive waiting lists and competitive entry nursing programs (points system), I will apply to all I can and take whatever opportunity presents itself. I hope to complete my BSN as expedituously as possible. Best wishes to all of you on your pursuit of my nursing careers! :)

That's great, I am also a mother to two boys ( 5 and 3 yrs old) My oldest just started kindergraten I will also complete my AA in Health Administration in December but in December 2008. I am on the LVN wait list at my CC and hopefully can start in Fall 2008 but if not I was told 2009 for sure. They said they would notify me when they knew for sure when I would be starting. The application I turned in had a packet that stated that students are admitted into the LVN program in the order that their admission packet is turned in and when all student slots are filled the remaining students are put on the LVN wait list until the next avaliable class!!! So to help pass the time until I start I will be taking Biology 100-Elementary Human Anatomy and Physiology in Feb. and then PSY101-General Psychology. I have to have these classes completed before i can start the second semester of the LVN program at my CC. My friend told me that her friend is taking Biology 100 along with her nursing classes and it's really hard and stressful on her, so that is why I will be taking these classes now so that when I start Nursing School I can concentrate 100% on Nursing School!!! It's so nice to know that someone else is also getting the same degree as me Sorry about the rambling and long post I am just so very excited that I am offically a pre-nursing student and soon to be NURSING STUDENT:balloons::balloons::balloons:!!!
