I am just curious. I am 37 and will be taking my last pre-req in January for the nursing program at my local community college. I have noticed many people here are over 30, so I wanted to just blurt out the question. How many of us 30 somethings are making a career change into Nursing?
I'm 37 and making a career change, but I still work in an office for now.
Hi,
I am 37 and last week I have been accepted in a pre nursing course.I have 2 children (girl 15 and boy 10).Yes it is a career change for me....I work in an offce in the morning....I will be doing the pre nursing course at night at my local college.
Hopefully next year I will apply for the nursing course at University.
I'm 37, I just finished College Math and English 101, both with A's. I can't believe it. Iv'e been out of school for 20 years. I'm taking A&P I this fall and I'm also appying to Nursing programs for Fall of 08". I love school, it's a tough but worth it. What made me finally go back and give my dream of being a nurse a try was that I have encountured so many people who have gone back to school in their 30's and 40's, I knew I could do it. Good luck to all. Now's the time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think I'd like pediatrics or pediatric ICU. But I think my calling might be hospice care. Iv'e been there for a number of close friends at the end, caring for them and helping them to cope with the process of dying, so only God knows where I'll end up. How about you, what area do you think you might be lead into?
I'm 36 years old and will be starting my pre-reqs in less than 2 weeks. I've been in banking for the last 15 years and I'm doing a career change! I have a Bachelor's degree now and according to my academic advisor, I should be able to start the 15 month nursing program next Fall 2008. I'm very excited but also very anxious!!! I haven't taken a classroom class since 1992. Any suggestions for student must-haves before I start my first quarter of classes in 2 weeks? I will be taking Medical Terminology, Anatomy & Physiology I, and General Psychology for my first quarter. Any input is appreciated!!!

General psychology is tough because you are studying Psychology as a broad unit. Memorize...Memorize....use note cards. A&P classes go in depth. Know structure and function of everything you go over....again note cards are helpful also go and get a coloring book for Anatomy that really helped me alot when I studied. Especially with bones and muscles.....ahhh the i-bands. So much information in such a little time frame. That can be purchased at Barnes and Noble. Medical Teminology...did not take it.
Good luck to you!:balloons:
I'm taking A&P I now and I love it. I feel like I'm finally learning something that I will actually use in nursing. What helps me a lot is, I read as much of an up coming chapter before class. That way when it is presented again in lecture, it is not the first time I have heard the terms. I also have flash cards. But wait untill you get your books. I brought a lot of extra study material only to find that my textbook came with alot of the same stuff for free. Good luck you'll do great.

Will be 33 very shortly, almost finished with prereq's ( 4 to go!) all while working in EMS and trying to get into an STNA class to gain some long term patient care experience.
Age is definitely nothing but a number! Glad to be in good company!
