I am just curious. I am 37 and will be taking my last pre-req in January for the nursing program at my local community college. I have noticed many people here are over 30, so I wanted to just blurt out the question. How many of us 30 somethings are making a career change into Nursing?
I'm 37 and making a career change, but I still work in an office for now.
30 somethings??? Try 50 something and then we'll talk! Finishing up my pre-reqs this semester and starting an accelerated BSN in the spring. I'll be 53 when I finish and then it's on to MSN land. Good luck to all of us "mature" students!
geomar, you might be the winner!!
Kudos to you for getting back into the game. At 42 I'm the second oldest my class of 24... the oldest is 46.
Since I think students get stronger and stronger with each decade, I'm glad I'm not competing with you for the valedictorian spot in my class!!
i'll be 34 on the 28th. :balloons: i see we have another august birthday coming up too! :welcome:
i start school on the 27th..... and i haven't stepped foot in the classroom since 1995! but 10+ years in accounting has left me searching for "more".
i'm taking my pre-req's & will apply to ns in the spring. my mom & my sister are both nurses.... so they've been a big support while i debated making this "life change".
i'm looking forward to it!!!
I'm 42, have to take Chemistry before I can apply to NS. I haven't been out of school long though, I got my BA in bus mgmt in 2005. I also work in Accounting (got my AAB in 2001). I am getting nothing out of sitting in a cubicle looking at numbers all day! I've got at least 25 more years to work (according to Social Security) might as well do something I'll like!
ME
I am 37 uggghhh, but act like a 20yr old !
I am a mom of an 8mth old girl and a 4 yr.old boy. I have been home with them for 4 years; since my son was born. Prior to that I worked for a manufacturing company as their district manager. I always wanted to be a nurse but never did it. I have a bachelors degree in Psychology. Maybe I am going through an early mid life crisis, lol.
I just don't want to regret never doing nursing and I know I would. I start A&P at my community college Sept. 4th. Supposedly, that is the only prereq I need before I apply for the nursing program.
Anyone take the HESI yet ? Have to start studying for that as well to pass it !
Stupid question but does anyone know if they offer nursing school at night ? (I know they offer the BSN at night) but.......I was thinking of calling a "Learning Hospital" to see if they would hire me. Does anyone know anything about that ?
Confused & excited !

I'm 36 a single mother and needed a career change. I currently have a Bachelors in Psychology which I haven't been able to do much with, I am currently in real estate, but it doesn't provide the income stability I need to support my children. I have decided to return to school this fall and will begin my pre-requisites and hope to get into NS by Fall of 08. I'm really excited because I love helping people; which is one of the things I enjoy about real estate. However, with nursing I can help people and get paid for working.
You sound like me, except I am 37 with 2 kids. I have a Bachelors in Psychology and worked as a manager for 13 years but left it after my first son was born. I got into real estate last year; like you because I love helping people. My dream was always to be a nurse and I said I am going for it now ! taking my A&P Sept. 4th then hopefully I will pass the HESI and NCLEX exam to get into the nursing program.
Where are you from ??

I'm 31 with three boys ages 1, 4, and 6. I start my pre-req's in a few weeks and I'm very nervous. Most nervous about a&p. any advice would be very welcomed!!!! good luck everyone.
I feel the same way ! very nervous to start the prereqs after being out of school for so long. I am 37 with an 8mth old and 4yr.old. Wanted to be a nurse for as long as I could remember and never did it for reasons that are so silly now (looking back......)
In any event, I am only taking A&P b/c that is all I need but I feel like I should be taking more.......Going to check with the person in charge of the program.
Lots of luck !
