  1. I have worked in a residential treatment facility for the past 10 months. I find that the majority of the kids are very nice and polite to nursing staff, they have had bad pasts that they are dealing with which is why there are with us. There are always going to be a couple that may get violent, but I find that the majority, atleast that I work with are not. I have not been threatened or attacked since I have worked with the kids. If you treat them with respect and understanding, you will usually get the same in return...it's all about good relationship building. Good luck...and don't be afraid...these kids need care and compassion.
  2. Danskos are the only ones I've worn, but I can tell you that I do not come home with tired legs or achey back. If you ry Danskos, be sure to go and get properly fitted for them
  3. Another thing to consider while waiting for clinicals to begin is to begin taking credit towards the 4 year degree. The RHSN program is set up with Kutztown University for the RN-BSN completion program- just a thought
  4. I am a 2nd year student at RHSN, and it always takes that long to get in. They fill up the classes a year in advance. If you do opt to apply for the class they are starting, you will enter as a cohort and can only progress with your entire class- taking the same classes as they are. So if you have already taken all of your pre-req's, you won't start clinicals until a year after the rest of your classmates. I think that you will find a long wait no matter where you apply. Some programs have been known to have waitlists of years, or schools like RHSN do not have waitlists, rather a student applies each year until they are accepted. It wouldn't hurt to try and apply to several different schools to see where you can get in first. I can tell you that RHSN may be worth the wait for you. My nursing instructors have been awesome both in lecture and clinicals Best of luck to you
  5. You may have to take a few prerequisite's before applying. Contact them and they will send you information on exactly what you need and about the school. I am in my 2nd year evening/weekend program. Most of us have children anywhere from baby all the way up . You absolutely can do it. The best advice I can give you is to give it 100% with the prerequisites. Grades a a big factor in who gets accepted each year. You can meet these prerequisetes at community college inexpensively. The fact that you have no education past high school doesn't matter at all. Best of luck to you
  6. I am from Montgomery & Berks county area's. I know that years ago the community college I attended had anywhere from a 1 year to 5 year wait list. I've heard of many others speak of being on a waitlist. I know I've seen others speak of a "lottery", but not sure if that is in Pa. And then there are others that consider all applicants for the next cohort based on grades. All I can say for sure is that competition is high and there are many, especially from what I have read on this site, that are just waiting to be accepted. Best advice I could give to you is apply to several schools you may be interested in, aim for 4.0, and hopefully one (or possibly several choices) becomes available to you with a sooner start time. Best of luck to you
  7. As far as I know most all of the programs are waitlisted. I go to a hospital based school that does not put anyone on waitlist. You apply and you get in for the following year- if not you have to reapply again the next. I know competition is high- so keep those grades up. I don't think getting more prereq's in will help you get into school faster but it will certainly make school easier so you can focus just on nursing courses.
  8. I had to get the Landau brand for school- I found the style I got fit good in the arm/chest area but huge over the waist. I looked like a bell in them. I am also a size 16. I had them tailored - 2 tops and 2 bottoms- $56. I can't wait till I have my choice of what brand/ style because I don't want to have to pay for tailoring again. But if your problem is the waist/hip area, these may be just right for you. Mine are button down tops.
  9. will be 36 in a couple of months and beginning first semester of Nursing next week
  10. I currently attend thier nursing program. I don't know for sure about pay- I believe I've heard somewhere around $23. They do participate in the loan forgiveness program. I have heard it is a good hospital to work at. Sorry I couldn't offer any first hand advice. Hopefully someone else who does work there answers because I will probably be working there when I graduate too.
  11. I just finished up the summer session - best advice I can give is flash cards- they helped tremendously with all the information there is to remember. Best of luck to you
  12. Congrats to all of us survivors of Micro!!!!! Personally, I didn't like the class at all- half my class is failing. I have my lecture final tonight- hopefully I get an A, but it's nice to know that since all my other test scores were good that I don't need it- just want it, so no major pressure here. I feel so bad for those in my class that really do need it. Anyway- again congrats to everyone who just finished & passed and best of luck to everyone else!!!!
  13. Fortunately, my A&P clsses were mostly fill in the blank, multiple choice and matching. Like others have said, the major sciences are tough to take in the summer ( I am in Micro right now). I agree with some of the above responses; make flash cards, know & understand your main points instead of memorizing an essay type answer. I had to do this one time only- in A&P- with the firing of the neuron step by step......... It was easily a full page of step by step notes and it drove me nuts. I wish you luck!! Believe in yourself, you will do fine
  14. Thanks for your replies. Mine are just a bit too tight over the top of my foot. My left shoe fits perfect. I think I am going to give em a go and hope they stretch a little bit. My mistake was ordering online instead of going to a store to try them on. So I hate to send them back for a larger size that are too big and have to go through the process all over again. I know these are supposed to be the best- which is why I got them.
  15. Hi! I just purchased a pair of Dansko professional shoes. I was really expecting to put them on and say "ahhhhhh". However, they don't seem that comfy to me. The right shoe seems a little too tight. I guess my question is whether or not the leather stretches to a more comfortable fit after they're broken in a bit. Thanks!!!
