Most RN's first borns?
Interesting........ 1st born but no alcoholism in mother or father. I was always the family care giver - still am. That is one of the reasons I chose this profession. It gives me joy to take care of people and put smiles on their face !

Welcome, Ry&avsmom & Rn2berlin. I live in the Swedesboro area. We're neighbors! I was in your shoes last fall and I know exactly what you're going through. After I got accepted, I quit my 50 hr/wk job and took a part time job at Underwood. Working at a hospital while in school is a great benefit. They are completly supportive of your education and help out with scheduling around school. If you have any clerical experience, you should consider applying for a unit clerk position. You have to know medical terminology, though. The college offers med term as a 1 credit online course. I took it and found it very easy. Thank you SO much for the warm welcome Crimsonking ! Great to be your neighbor !! I just took your advice and registered for the online Basic Medical Terminology course ! I appreciate the advice !!!!! I will DO whatever it takes to get into this program and become a nurse. I am ready for the challenge ! At 37 I can honestly say, this is exactly what I want to do ! NOW, any advice for the HESI ?? I take that on Oct. 20th and have already started studying but don't know what to expect !

THANK YOU SO much GCC70tt ! I have 2 children also so I am concerned I won't be able to care for them but if only 2 days a week, that will be fine. Were you able to work for a hospital while doing the program? If so, can I ask which one? Where are you from in NJ ? Thanks again ! Dawn

HI everyone ! I have a BA in Psychology (graduated in 1993).....Just registered for A&PI this fall (this Wed. ahhhh!) I met with an advisor that told me I really only need my sciences before I apply for nursing school 2008. Can anyone recommend someone at the college in charge of nursing that I can speak to? I want to make sure these are the only prereqs I need for sure. I am registering to take the HESI test in Oct. Also, do they only offer the classes for the program during the day ?? What teachers does everyone recommend ?? THANKS so much !! Dawn

How many of us 30 somethings are out there?
ME ! I'm 37 and making a total career change. I worked in an office, then was a stay at home mom for my children, then became a real estate agent, now going back to school for nursing. I start A&P I this coming Wed. The nursing program at my community college doesn't begin until Sept. 08 so it will be a while for me....... I graduated college in 1993 so it should be interesting going back to school again........... Dawn

How many of us 30 somethings are out there?
I feel the same way ! very nervous to start the prereqs after being out of school for so long. I am 37 with an 8mth old and 4yr.old. Wanted to be a nurse for as long as I could remember and never did it for reasons that are so silly now (looking back......) In any event, I am only taking A&P b/c that is all I need but I feel like I should be taking more.......Going to check with the person in charge of the program. Lots of luck ! Dawn:)

You sound like me, except I am 37 with 2 kids. I have a Bachelors in Psychology and worked as a manager for 13 years but left it after my first son was born. I got into real estate last year; like you because I love helping people. My dream was always to be a nurse and I said I am going for it now ! taking my A&P Sept. 4th then hopefully I will pass the HESI and NCLEX exam to get into the nursing program. Where are you from ?? Dawn

How many of us 30 somethings are out there?
ME I am 37 uggghhh, but act like a 20yr old ! I am a mom of an 8mth old girl and a 4 yr.old boy. I have been home with them for 4 years; since my son was born. Prior to that I worked for a manufacturing company as their district manager. I always wanted to be a nurse but never did it. I have a bachelors degree in Psychology. Maybe I am going through an early mid life crisis, lol. I just don't want to regret never doing nursing and I know I would. I start A&P at my community college Sept. 4th. Supposedly, that is the only prereq I need before I apply for the nursing program. Anyone take the HESI yet ? Have to start studying for that as well to pass it ! Stupid question but does anyone know if they offer nursing school at night ? (I know they offer the BSN at night) but.......I was thinking of calling a "Learning Hospital" to see if they would hire me. Does anyone know anything about that ? Confused & excited ! Dawn
