How many of us 30 somethings are out there?

Published

I am just curious. I am 37 and will be taking my last pre-req in January for the nursing program at my local community college. I have noticed many people here are over 30, so I wanted to just blurt out the question. How many of us 30 somethings are making a career change into Nursing?

I'm 37 and making a career change, but I still work in an office for now.

My age is an asset that's for sure.[/quote']

You bet you ASSet it is!;)

I'm 35 with 2 boys and a saint (my wife) at home. I'm leaving a fairly lucritive facility management job to start an accelerated 2nd degree BSN program in 10 days! I've done EMS for several years and before that I was a CNA. I always enjoyed working in the hospital setting more than pre-hospital work, and I've hated:madface: working in an office! I took my only pre-req, microbiology, this summer and got an A while all the 20 somethings were looking to me to setup studygroups and help them along! I'm glad I'm an older student heading into Nursing school. I don't have all the ambivolence I had when I was younger and I know this is what I want to do! Hopefully I'll still have this attitude in a few weeks when I'm up to my neckin classes and clinicals!

Best luck to all of us!

Jason

I am 35 here :)

Went back to school in January '06 and graduate Dec '08!

Then, I plan to work for a few years and go to graduate school via the ADN to MSN route if possible.

I figure I'll probably be 40-45 when I earn my graduate degree but I'm not really in a hurry... I'm enjoying the journey!

Hi all! I'll be turning 33 next week and starting my 2 year BSN program on the 27th! For the previous 2 years, I was doing my pre-reqs part-time and working full-time. Now, it's going to be the opposite. My hubby going to hold down the fort while I'm in school, but I'm still thinking about getting a personal loan, just in case working part time is not feasible.

I just finished a 2 day orientation and most of the students are sooo young! It was a more mixed group at my community college, especially since I was going in the evenings. I'm feeling old for the 1st time in my life, but I'm fulfilling my dream!

It's great to see a thread with so many successful 30 somethings striving for a new career! We all can do it! Good luck everyone!

I'm 31 :roll (I can't believe it, I still feel 24). Anyhoo, I'm switching from Mass Communications/Broadcast Journalism/Theatre Arts/Artist...to become an RN. I still plan on pursuing my craft of acting, but I would love to be an RN. I'm excited and scared at the same time.

I am 34, completing my Gen Eds in a 2 year accelerated program, and I start my core in February!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Older Students DO it better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is my motto and I am STICKIN To it.

Maybe after you've become a nurse you can get a job playing one on TV!!

From my experience as a 20-something student, 30-something student, and now a 40-something student, your motto is also the TRUTH!!

I am a 31 yr old male nursing student. This is a major career and life change for me. My 5 year old daughter is having trouble grasping that I'm going to be a nurse and not a doctor. She doesn't believe men can be nurses, no matter how much you tell her.:icon_roll

I've taken all my pre-reqs and will start Nursing I in 2 1/2 weeks! Good luck to everyone! God Bless!
