I am just curious. I am 37 and will be taking my last pre-req in January for the nursing program at my local community college. I have noticed many people here are over 30, so I wanted to just blurt out the question. How many of us 30 somethings are making a career change into Nursing?
I'm 37 and making a career change, but I still work in an office for now.
I just turned 31 in May, I have two boys 5 and 3 years old. I am starting my pre-reques this spring. It will probably be 3 to 4 years before I can finally call myself a Nurse!!! I did attend my local community College right out of high school and my parents paid for it, I took it for granted plus I was not really ready for college at the time either. Now that I am older, I now know exactly what I want and that is to be a RN!!! I cannot wait until I finally can start nursing, I am so excited to finally know what I want to do, late blummer i guess plus I have had the unfortunate experience of working fast food never again would I work fast food it's horrible!!! I wish you all the best!!!
:nurse:Nurses Rock!!!
I'm 36 a single mother and needed a career change. I currently have a Bachelors in Psychology which I haven't been able to do much with, I am currently in real estate, but it doesn't provide the income stability I need to support my children. I have decided to return to school this fall and will begin my pre-requisites and hope to get into NS by Fall of 08. I'm really excited because I love helping people; which is one of the things I enjoy about real estate. However, with nursing I can help people and get paid for working.
35 here, urgggg. Working on last 2 semesters of prereq's and then applying for Fall 2008. Sometimes I wonder if I doing the right thing, lol. Feel so old next to the 20 years olds in some of my classes.
It was a little weird last semester when I found out that I'm a bit older than the parents of the girls who were my lab partners. On the other hand, I wasn't the oldest in my prerequisites nor am I the oldest in my program.
My age is an asset, that's for sure.
Will be 31 in October. I've worked as and EMT and paramedic but knew I wanted to be a CRNA after an OR rotation in paramedic school. I've been taking my BSN pre-reqs over the last two years and will FINALLY apply this month for a January '08 admission.
If I get in I'll feel that I'm finally getting on with my life.
Thanks everyone, you have all made me feel better. I was starting to get a little nervous about my age and just starting out. I know an RN that was an LPN until a couple of years ago before going for her RN. She is over 40 but I figured it made more sense for her since she was an LPN already. But now that I see how many people out there are taking pre-req's and preparing like me, it makes me feel much better. Thanks so much for posting!!:thankya:
I'm 31 with three boys ages 1, 4, and 6. I start my pre-req's in a few weeks and I'm very nervous. Most nervous about a&p. any advice would be very welcomed!!!! good luck everyone.
Don't be nervous!!! The hardest part is actually getting started in school in my opinion!! I know two people who are just starting back up with school and they are both so nervous, but I can remember back when I first started and how nervous I was and how long it took me to actually go through the process of enrolling in school!!! It was SCARY!
But once I started my classes, I knew that was what I was supposed to be doing. It was actually fun and exciting to be back in school!! And I find myself waiting for the next semester to start again...every step you complete is a great feeling!! I actually made my own schedule of classes I need to take and when I'd take them and after every semester, I cross it off and what a great feeling that is!!!
Hang in there - you will do great!!! A&P was challenging (mainly due to the amount of material you needed to remember), but it was by far my favorite class so far - and I am done with my pre-req's!
Good luck!

Count me in. I'm 33, married with 3 kids, and this is my "second" career (although I never really used my first one) LOL.
I will finish my pre-reqs in the spring and will apply next summer for fall of 09. Seems like decades away. I'll be 37 before I can say I'm actually a nurse.
I'm so glad that I decided to do this now though. I don't think I would have appreciated all that I've learned if I would have done it the first time around. I think I took my education for granted when my parents paid for it... I just am so much more appreciative of it now, and I've learned so much more....
Good luck to all of us '70's children!!! Woot Hoot!!
