  1. Hi,I have just qualified as a nurse here in England and today I received my first NMC pack.I am not able to find a job as yet as a nurse,as the rest of my cohort, maybe 5 have jobs on a cohort of almost 200. What puzzles me is....how is it possible to hire nurses from outside the UK,when the newly qualified here can't find a job? I find it totally unfair.I do not mean to sound rude, but I have worked very hard in my three years of nursing, and for someone to come from overseas and take a job when we have nurse who are here and are unable to find jobs,it is wrong. It is very distressing to me.I have no job, bills to pay and two children to care for,as the majority of my cohort,we are all struggling to find jobs. Please can someone show me the light at the end of this very long tunnel? My post was not intended to offend anyone, but life is getting tougher for everyone. Thank you.
  2. I live in London just 30 minutes away from where the main riot started in Tottenham.I don't understand people trying to justify the riots. They were a criminal act in the name of a known drug dealer. During the riots my teenager children and I all slept in one room. I was going to my management placement (final placement) in the morning leaving the kids at home as here in UK is half term. I am a single mum,a student nurse (qualifying September 2011),with two teenagers who wouldn't dream of rioting or stealing, because I will personally hand them in to the police, if they ever did. Unfortunately bad parenting is the main cause for these riots.......where were the parents of the 11 yrs old rioting? What have these parents taught their children? It is a disgrace what is going on in major cities of England. I can't wait to move away from this country as soon as possible. London is a "living hell".
  3. I am a 3rd year student,I will qualify in September 2011,and I am horrified at the prospect of not being able to find a job when I finish my course. I am now thinking if maybe I should emigrate if there are any available visas for countries like Canada or USA.
  4. Hi, I am a nursing student and in my class there is a lady who is 59,and another lady who is 56,so forget about age,if you feel read to do it,just go ahead. Unfortunately society is very ageist, but if you feel deep in your heart that nursing is your vocation,do not worry about people. Good luck. p.s.I am 39 and in my 2nd year.
  5. Hi there, I am a nursing student as well (in London),in my first year, tomorrow I am going on my second day of practice in hospital. I understand the way you feel,I too have felt (on my first practice day) like I didn't belong, and I am sure the next three years will be very hard for me. I hope I will be able to succeed and stay focused on my dream of becoming a nurse. But I have heard of not nice stories from my friends on their first day in hospital, some were spoken in a negative manner or even told that if they didn't know how to do something than nursing was not for them. It is sad,as all qualified nurses were once students......why are some some nurses so horrible? I wish you good luck in your career,I am sure you will be fine.
  6. Hi, in my written piece at my interview (which I had in March '08 ) they asked what is the role of a nurse in a hospital. It is just to check you writing skills, grammar and so on. Good luck.
  7. It is sad you had a bad experience, but to bad mouth all Americans is not right. Believe me U.K. is not what it was when you left it....we have problems here too...London for instance stabbing almost 2-3 a week among teenagers, gun culture, yes gun....people get killed by guns here too, gang culture, immigration with no control, high council tax, food and petrol are very expensive, overcrowded trains and bus, expensive travelcard or train tickets and so on....I am sure I have missed some..... Good luck in coming back.
  8. It is ok,my prayers are sent with love and affection...to be honest I am not English, but Italian.I live in London and I have truly appreciate the help of the people on this website. Some of which have helped me to achieve my dream.... I have recently been offered a place at University on an Adult Nursing course, which I shall start in September. I believe in the power of prayers and if you truly wish for something,it will happen....prayers have helped me a lot through very difficult times and I am sure the power of prayers will help you as well. God bless you always.
  9. Once again I wish you all the best.God Bless you and your husband.I will be thinking and praying for you and your family from England.
  10. Just to let you all know that I have done my interview and I have been offered a place for the Adult Nursing branch.I am so over the moon.
  11. Sending blessings to you and your husband.God bless.
  12. It looks like it was all fake.
  13. Old post but I thought I would answer it anyway. I am Italian ,born and bred in Italy, living in England,if you do need informations about Italians do not let people (that do not know anything about Italians)tell you what Italians do and think, ask an Italian!!! I think an Italian born and bred in Italy is not the same as an Italian born and bred in USA...totally different......! Good luck on your study.
  14. I disagree,I am Italian,I live in England and I am studying nursing here in England.Italians do speak English and they do teach English in our schools in Italy and it is not true that Italians do not want to learn English. All of my friends back in Italy speak English and some have moved to live in USA,so it all depends where you live in Italy. Never judge the all country, for the few you have met. We do not have a hard time learning English,I really do not understand some of the comments, being Italian and living in England I find those comments quite negative. The post is quite old,but I thought to add my comment anyway.
  15. Thank you Silverdragon and Amoeba,I really appreciate your advice. I'll try my best.
