  1. Thanks soo much for your Extra input Btdthat08 - I was really concerned about it all coming to an end before I'd even started. Feel somewhat more positive now. Thanks again :-)
  2. Thank you for your advance - well I find the whole process confusing & I'm sure others do too; what route to take, where to start.... I've completed 2 further modules at degree level since qualifying; foundation in perioperative care advanced practice in anaesthetics both required me to work in all disciplines including paeds, obs etc and with a set number of working hours. I know anaesthetic don't exist in Canada but would my qualifications be of assistance when applying for registration?
  3. Silverdragon - I'd like to mail you privately - unfortunately I am unable to PM you - perhaps you could me, then I could reply???
  4. Hi there, Im afraid I am not personally writing the guide - I am actually hoping someone would breakdown the stages for myself and other future applicants. I have been searching around on many different websites and am extremely confused with the process. Please would an experienced member step in and shine some light on starting the ball rolling and the following steps necessary to obtain permanent residency. Thank you so very much (in advance) :redpinkhe Just for reference, I am english and born in uk - I have full UK nursing registration, qualifed with diploma - experience in anaesthetics AND scrub.
  5. I had a look at the website re requirements for registration - should I just make a enquiry and send along my transcripts for review? Its says when applying you need Canadian citzenship etc.. which of course I dont have, so I guess I should just make an enquiry.... Updating; okay so have applied for application pack to begin assessment process - got alittle twang of excitement then :rotfl: but Ill try to keep things in perspective Ty Silverdragon - hope you don't mind if I keep you updated... 6. Ty - would it better to apply for the exam first before contacting the province? Or should I just make an enquiry?? Sorry, really stupid/simple questions... I just find the process isnt at all clear! Plus, I only have a diploma in General Nursing, so was planning to get my degree in midwifery. Would this make a difference re my registration?? Oop, no more thing - im currently studying anaesthetic nursing, and have obtained 4 weeks exp. in paeds and 4 weeks in obs. I completed 4 weeks in a mental health environment during my initial nursing training. Hopefully this will be sufficient experience to satisfy the College's requirements! B84
  7. Ty for the advice Silverdragon. I am going to apply and start the midwifery course in February 2011 (assuming I get a place) and following on from there, 18 months later I should be a registered midwife. I do however have to give up my nurse registration at that point. When should I contact the province I wish to work in? When on the course? Ty, B84
  8. Sorry to intrude on your post(!)... I just wondered whether your friend who is a midwife from the UK, did she complete the bridging course for international midwives??
  9. Hello, Ty for replying - I've been looking at the situation in the US for some time now and thought that I would try to pursue a career/life in Canada instead. I am aware that I would need a Bachelors degree to go to Canada, so am currently looking into the 18m Midwifery course for adult nurses. Then I plan to reassess my situation and look at Canada. Has anyone else made the move as a UK registered midwife???
  10. Just wanted to add that if the route to Canada fails, I would like to look at moving/living in America
  11. Hi there Im hoping someone could help me please. I am a registered adult nurse living in the UK, and thus far have almost a years experience in the operating room environment. I am educated to Diploma level. I am considering studying Midwifery next year, to firstly move in to a new and challenging area and secondly, complete a 18 month course and obtain a Bachelors in Midwifery. I would like to live and work in Canada, but I am confused about the process, so I am hoping someone could clear this issue up for me. I have been looking this morning and apparently I would need to do a 9 month bridging course in midwifery to update my skills from England. Has anyone else done this - how did they find the level of education? How much did it cost? Were you offered work afterwards? How much experience did you have prior to starting the course? How did you go about applying? I find this process alittle too overwhelming Also I have an uncle who has Canadian Citizenship, currently residing in the US. Would I be able to get sponsorship to speed up the process?? Thank you kindly :) B84
  12. Thanks SD, I really hope that I begin to come into my own when I get into the working world - I am looking forward to really getting my teeth into something! Bx.
  13. Hi everyone! I am hoping someone can advise me on this issue. I have trouble fitting in in the work place, feeling comfortable around colleagues, using eye contact successfully without freaking out others. I am currently studying nursing, and am due to finish very soon. I know the placements are to gain and consolidate your nursing skills but I've found chopping and changing clinical areas pretty challenging to say the least. Sometimes your mentor has little interest in teaching you and can decide to ignore you so youre left to your own devices. Also, I guess being a student you can be branded as a 'waste of time' or nuisance, so are often treated this way by the other medical professionals too. Perhaps this is just how it is in London and/or big cities?? I have found it really difficult to feel comfortable in these settings, and can honestly say that my confidence has been shattered. I struggle with being able to feel at ease sometimes, and have become very self-conscious. I go in and out of feeling good about myself - the times when I don't, I struggle to communicate with people as I begin 'staring' into peoples eyes and I know its clearly not an acceptable thing to do. I end up avoiding discussions and communicating when I need to. I do enjoy interacting with people and patients, but when I am feeling too aware of myself, I find it very difficult. I have been applying for jobs recently as I will soon qualify. I have been asked to attend an interview for a job I am particularly interested in. I am now however, worried about whether I will fit in in the environment and whether I can feel comfortable again - enough to be able to settle into a decent job - before I've even gone for the interview! I would love to be able to overcome this problem, perhaps it will come when I qualify, and my thoughts and actions will actually 'count' for once. Bx
