  1. keep it coming...i will be starting LPN classes in two weeks...Very nervous, but up for the challenge...as hard as everyone says it is, i know it is worth it...Failure is not an option so bring it on!, is my attitude! Congrats on the Good Grades, sounds like you are enjoying everything...
  2. sorry about the delay of the response... i have been taking classes online(part time)..i wonder if since this will be my first time as a full time student, could i still apply for the act scholarship...i want to think i have strong family support system, as i am newly divorced..however, my immediate family will take the slack...thank GOD! My main concern is the funding for my everyday living...I will apply for a perkins loans, i have been reading this depends on the amount of money the school has to offer..i have applied at the winjob center...at this point in my life, failing is not an option...so if i can get the funding situation under control, i know i will devote everything i have to the program...i do have faith in GOD, that he will make a way! So I guess I need to stop wyning...and get on top of my game as far as applying for the funding, right? and bless your heart, with all commuting that you are doing, you have got to love what you do..remember hard work, sacrifice and persistance, always pays off...thanks for all your responses...i am going to think of more questions..i guess i just need someone that has been in my shoes, to tell me it is okay!
  3. do you have any advice/suggestions about student loans or applying for grants, and other types of funding to help during nursing school..since i will have to resign from my current job..i am interested to know of any assistance i may be eligible for...i am a divorced, single parent, 2 kids.. did you work during the program? i know they recommend that you do not..are you still in the area? how was the job search? are you satisfied with the pay in this area? i know i am nosey, but most of it is nervousness..I am still in shock!
  4. hello everyone, I will be starting an 11month LPN prorgram August 18, graduating July 2009! Yeah! I have been taking pre-reqs online since last fall..Online is wayyyyy different than the classroom...I am excited about being in a class with other classmates, and an instructor...however, I have a few questions...I will not be able to work at my current job, when classes start..therefore I will need other means of living..as i am newly divorced with 2 kids(cant live on child support alone)..I will be applying for a student loan, but does anyone have anyother suggestions for receiving funds while in nursing school. I am in MS, EMCC Community College...anyone out there with any advice..thanks for your time.
  5. hello, i have been accepted into the LPN program at EMCC, classes begin August 18...I am very excited to begin this journey and would love to be able to continue at EMCC, through a bridge program..Are you a former student of the college? I have several copies of the survey on hand, and I will be working to get signatures...
  6. hello wgirl08, are you a student at the "W", if so I am going for LPN first at EMCC, and then hopefully bridge to RN at the "W". I initally wanted to begin the ADN program at the "W", but I dont have all my prereq. and I wouldnt have them done by June 1 2008, so being that I am a late bloomer, I wanted to begin working asap, and so decided to take the LPN route, to start working by 2009. Hopefully you are a student there, and are able to give me heads up about the program, your experience with LPN coming in to bridge, and anything else. Hope to hear back from you! Have a good day

I am also interested in Research as well. Has anyone worked with Sickle Cell Patients? and/or Sickle Cell Research? I am in the process of beginning some of my prereqs, and will apply for the LPN program, at my cc(need to start work asap). My future plans: I am going to finish the LPN, work for a year, transition to RN, then BSN, and continue with Masters. My goal is to one day work with Sickle Cell patients and/or Sickle Cell Research. Are there any nurses out there, that have experience with Sickle Cell Patients or the Research?
  8. hello all, I am 33, and in the process of starting classes for my prereqs...before applying for the LPN program at a community college in my area, I will work as LPN for a year(requirement to get into nursing program), and then continue on to pursue RN, and Masters, I am planning to go as far as I need to(keep reading and you will see why I feel this way). I also, currently work in an office, where I am burned out/bored out of my mind.. I know nursing will put some spice back into my career life. You are never too mature to change. Good luck to all of us, 30 and over!!!!! You know they say 30 is the new 20! Go figure, tell that to my thighs, they are definatley 30 something(lol)!:balloons: I am very excited about this new change, I have always known, the office setting is not where I belong, but you have to work in order to eat, however everything has its own season. Well, it's spring time as far as my career is concerned! My reason for changing careers, towards nursing, is: I have a 1 year old, and he was diagnosed at 2months, with Hemoglobin SC, which is a form of Sickle Cell. We were told he could have some of the same symptons as a SS patient(crisis), but not has painful, and not all children diagnosed have crisis. GOD, has worked it out!! where, we have not experienced any pain crisis, and have not been to the hospital/er for any reason regarding SC,a nd he will be 1, on Oct.1!The devil is a lie!!!! This major transistion in my life, led me to begin being even more compassionate for children/babies dealing with major life threatening diseases. And during our visits to the Sickle Cell Clinic, I realized this is what I would love to do as a career, be able to help a child and touch their lives and their families' lives in a way that is beneficial to them. So here I am, on the path to nursing. Does anyone out there know if I would need a special certification to work in a Sickle Cell clinc? That is my goal! Even though my son, will be(I have claimed it) one of the few children that does not suffer from this condition inside of his body, I still believe I have a charge to keep, to all the other babies/children that will and do suffer. Didnt mean to be so long, but becoming a nurse is very important to me, and I tend to get emotional just thinking about how I got here!
  9. hello everyone, is there any current lpn students attending emcc, mayhew campus, or any current adn students attending the "w". I am still up in the air about which program would be better for me. I think I am going to apply for both. I was just on Emcc's website, and read about the NEON Grant, that is in place to assist nursing students. If I do decide to take the route of LPN, would have to bridge over to RN @ the "W"? And also, would I have to have 1 year work experience before bridging over to RN? Or can I work as a LPN, while I am studying for the RN? And also, how is the Nursing Entrance Exam given at EMCC? Does the "W" also require an entrance exam? I guess I need to set up meetings with counselors at these schools? I just have so many fears and questions about both programs. And I would just like direct answers from "students" that are going through the experience. HELP!(dont have a clue)
