I wasn't sure if this was started up but how many schools are you applying to? Also, if you are applying to multiple schools, are you taking prerequisites at one school and hoping that the courses transfer to all the schools? I would like to apply to at least three nursing programs but not al schools have the same prerequisites. I don't want to spend all my money taking unnessary classes especially since I have a bachelors degree.

I researched the schools around me and decided which school had the requirements and pass rates that fit what I wanted. The school I chose was gpa decision school. We get in based on our gpa. No test or other certifications needed. I researched which teachers everyone recommended. I use the resource center whenever I needed. Our school does let 50% of the class be from our school applicants who took pre reqs with them and after that everyone from our school is put back in the pot with applicants from other schools. So it is like you get two chances. But I have a 3.9 gpa so I think I would have gotten in either way. But I only applied to my school and was accepted the first time I applied. Yeah!!! So my advice look at your schools see what you can do to be the best applicate at the school you believe your best chance to be accepted to and meets your requires. Good luck to you!!!!!!

I researched the schools in my area to see which ones had the same pre-reqs. I'm applying to 3 schools in January. We'll see where I get accepted (hopefully). I have to take 8 classes before I can apply, since it's been 18 years since I've graduated from college and my credits are now considered "too old" I'm doing 3 classes this summer & 5 in the fall.
The school I'm focused on getting into is a points-based system. So far, my cumm. GPA is 3.74 and my pre-req GPA is 4.0. I should have enough points to get in on GPA plus getting my phlebotomy certification & volunteering at the Red Cross. (They give points for health-related certification and volunteering)
I'm doing all the pre-reqs at a community college to save money. The courses all transfer to the schools I'm applying to. I'm applying at the community college, which has the best reputation in the area. The main hospital here hires most of their new grads, which is why I want to go there. I'm also applying to 2 BSN programs in the area. One is a major university and while I know I have the best chance of getting accepted to that program, it's also the most expensive...ergo, less applicants. I'm holding out hope that I get in to the community college program. They have the most clinical hours out of all the programs and I just loved the teaching staff I met at the pre-nursing seminar.
There are also some other schools that I will apply to if I don't get in to the 3 I'm applying to in January. They are more of a drive, but if I have to...I'll do it! Where there's a will, there's a way...I'm going to get in somewhere

I applied to a Fall 2012 ADN program (Our Lady of Lourdes in NJ) back in March 2011 when I decided I finally wanted to pursue my dream. Eventually, I decided that an ABSN program (Thomas Jefferson University in PA) was a better fit for me since I already have a Bachelor's in another field. The two schools had a few similar prereqs (A&P, Microbiology, etc.), but a few of them were different. So I took a gamble and decided to pursue all the prereqs for the ABSN program without even knowing if I'd get in. It was pretty stressful, to say the least. It worked out for me and I was accepted into the ABSN program on 3/30/12. But is this something I'd recommend to other people? No, definitely not. I think research is your best bet. Also, pretty much any nursing school anywhere is going to want you to take 2 semesters of A&P, Microbiology, and at least 1 semester of Chemistry. At least those are the requirements for all the schools I've ever looked at (but then again, they're all in the NJ/PA area). So if you're unsure, you could always start out by taking those science courses, and then hope that you figure things out along the way. Sorry I can't be of more help to you here!

After this summer term, I'm only applying to one school. I was gonna apply to the community college too, but they started adding requirements like "College Success Experience 101" and whatever. I would do it, but I don't have the extra cash lying around or the time to blow on a couple of random seminars. So I think I'm gonna take my chances with my university.

I applied to three schools, and fortunately they all have the same prereqs. I think most programs have the basic prereqs (i.e., ANAT/Phys 1 and 2, Micro, Chem, etc). Luckily a lot of the non-science classes that the schools require i fulfilled when I got my bachelors. I don't want to take Psych or Sociology again (although they were fun, lol).
One of the schools does require Nutrition, and the other two don't. So if I get in to one of the ones that don't require Nutrition, I don't have to take it. But if I don't get into any of them I'm going to have to take Nutrition in the summer. It's a gamble, but we'll see what happens .

Hey there:)Well This time around I am applying to 3 different schools. 2 community college ADN programs, and A university for ADN and BSN! Most of these surrounding schools have the same prereqs, so that wasnt too much of a problem! This is my third time around applying for nursing school, the first two times i put all my eggs in one basket and only applied to one school!Good luck!

I'm applying to two schools. The college I'm currently attending has an ADN program that will start in January 2013 but all pre-reqs need to be done before Summer II sessions and another school is right near me and they have rolling admission so I'm crossing my fingers I can get in for Fall 2012 start.

I only applied to one. I researched which ADN program was the best, most sought after in my area, and tailored my goals to that one. I figure I'm going to shoot high and push myself. They want GPA and the ACT. Taking that at 41 was a little intimidating. But, I did well and I have a 4.0 on all my prereqs and am almost done with my coreqs with a 4.0 (I hope). I've also started the prereqs for the BSN bridge program I want and am tailoring everything towards that one program.
Of course, if I don't get in to my one choice, I'll have to do a little scrambling. I have a backup that has a program starting in the spring, but hope I won't have to go that route.

I'll probably apply to 3 community colleges close to my house. They're accredited and have similar pass rates. So to me the closer and cheaper the better. The pre-reqs are different among these ADNs, but usually the minimum are AP 1 and chem for science and courses such as algebra and English 101.
