  1. Got my final grade for Chem class and ended up with a B. Considering my professor was awful and I taught myself everything, I'm pretty proud of the turn out. I'm mailing off my nursing school application tomorrow and now I will spend the rest of my summer studying for the entrance exam.
  2. Hi All! Today was my last day for summer class (Gen Chem). It was one of the most brutal tests I have taken so far. I am finally done and can breathe a sigh of relief. I have to wait for my final grade which will be released on Thursday and then I can hand in my application to my schools evening nursing program. I'm so excited! Next step now is to study hard for the NLN exam. I'm taking off for fall semester to focus on working and saving money and will do my own self study for A&P II that I will take Spring 2013 hopefully along with any nursing classes if I get in. Good luck everyone with summer classes
  3. My last day for my summer class will be next Monday the 18th. So far we had our first exam 2 weeks ago on the first 6 chapters and I came out of it with a B. Chem class drives me crazy especially since it's fast paced but I'm luckily hanging on. This week we will be finished with the final chapter and all the piles of labs and homework we've been assigned need to be all handed it for grading. I doubt I'll ever take another summer class unless I have to like I did with this class because I'm exhausted lol.
  4. Not old at all! I am in the same boat as you. I'm turning 29 in 2 months. This summer semester I'm just finishing my pre-requisites and applying to hopefully get in to the evening program in January of 2013 so I most likely won't be done with my A.A.S. until I'm 31. It's never too late to start and I feel like I just started my life all over again. I like to think of it as people find what they want to do with their lives at any age and it's never a bad time to do what you dream of.
  5. I'm on my second week of summer class for Chem 101. I'm still trying to grasp conversions while doing all the chapters at a high speed. I feel a little behind but I know I will eventually get it. I've been cramming like crazy to get through the class so far.
  6. I wouldn't retake it. I got a C+ as my final grade due to personal issues affecting my school work. I would just do better in A&P 2 and study everything you learned from the class again. I'm going to spend my time this summer going over notes on everything to be prepared for a better grade in 2.
  7. This will probably be the last check in for me - we had our final exam on Monday. A&P is now done for me until this fall when I take A&P II. The final was 50 questions, multiple choice strictly on the CNS, PNS, brain structure and functions. I expected it to be crazy hard but surprisingly I walked out of there after 35 minutes. I am thankful for a professor that was a pain in the ass to us because it definitely kicked everyone into gear to study the material. I only have the rest of this week off until summer class starts for me which will be Chem 101. Dreading it because of the math but definitely hopeful. Good luck everyone on their finals!
  8. I will be 29 in a few months and I just started my pre-req's to hopefully get into the nursing program next year. Believe me, it's never too late. You are super young to do the degree you are trying to do now and then get into the ASN program later on. If you are passionate about nursing then honestly nothing will get in your way. When I got out of high school, I went into college for graphic design which I changed my mind about then I got a technical degree in network security which I hate now and then worked as management in offices during that whole time. This was all to find myself and follow my real happiness which is nursing. I still feel young and hopeful for my nursing degree so don't look back, just move forward. If you want to see what happens after your BA, then that's one road you can choose. If you want to completely start over to get your BSN you still have tons of time. Age shouldn't matter at this point because you have all the possibilities in the world. Take advantage of it. And don't put yourself down about thinking you won't get in. Just try out for it if you really want it and you could be surprised :)
  9. Well, everyone is different. Each person will handle the pace in their own way. It might be overwhelming at first but you have to figure out how to manage it. Many people here in the forums are taking 2-3 summer classes on top of working or other responsibilities so if they can do it, then you'd be able to do it too. That's my mindset though. I have plenty of time and my Chem summer class is Monday through Thursday from 1pm-4pm. I know it may be brutal but I don't have other responsibilities so I will pace myself in a way that works - if that makes sense lol. I'd like to hear about what other people think of the whole traveling thing as well. I know when I did A&P for this spring semester my professor told me straight out that if I miss more than 3 classes my grade gets dropped by one and that if you are taking a vacation, he is not responsible but he would hope we would reschedule it because the class is vital. For my fall semester teachers (english, psych and math) they did not mind the whole vacation thing as long as I was caught up so I guess it all comes down to the type of teacher you have and how strict they are with missing classes.
  10. Starting next week I will be taking General Chem for summer session and I'm very hopeful for it. It all depends on how dedicated you are. I will have plenty of time for it since I'm not working so it's perfect. I was out of school for a little over 8 years and I just finished Spring semester of A&P 1 and let me tell you it drove me crazy with how much I had to memorize and the class was only 2x a week. I have faith that chemistry will definitely be easier on me than A&P. My advice is if you have the time now to do it and focus and make time to study and read then you can handle it with no problem.
  11. Tonight was our last ever lecture night. We ended the class with Chapter 12, which is the Central Nervous System - stopped it at the blood brain barrier and just reviewed the last two chapters for the final. Monday will be our final exam and I will be officially done with Spring semester and can RELAX! Lol. Well, relax for only a week until my Chem 101 summer class starts but at least next week I can breathe a sigh of relief.
  12. Currently I have A&P 2 scheduled for Fall but if I get into the nursing program near my home, then I will be starting the official nursing classes. *crossing fingers*
  13. Update: My class is now winding down. We just need to read one chapter and the semester is over. We had an open book exam this past Monday and let me tell you, that was one of the hardest exams thus far. Everyone in my class was expecting it to be gruesome because it was open book. There were 90 questions and our professor gave us only an hour to complete it. The questions came from over 4 chapters of the book. I was sweating bullets trying to finish it. Definitely a tricky test even with the book helping out. Greatest news ever so far is that our muscle practical is cancelled and the professor is giving us a break and giving us all a passing grade. We all vented on how much stuff there was to study in the next two weeks (muscles plus the whole nervous system, special senses) that it was driving us crazy. He finally broke down and gave pity on us so now I'm only studying hard core for the final which is on the 23rd. I'm still going crazy but at least one thing has been removed from my plate. Unfortunately, I'll have to spend some time after summer class learning the muscles to make up for the practical being cancelled.
  14. Update: Next Monday is our third exam. It will include bone/muscle tissue, the skeleton, joints, and muscle tissue. On Wednesday we finally did dissection as our professor would rather us dissect closer to the end of classes so we know what we're looking at. I got to dissect a fetal pig and was surprised that it was fun instead of gruesome. Next Wednesday we will be dissecting a sheep brain. I only have 2 more weeks of class left and between that will be our final on the nervous system and muscles practical. I'm really starting to go crazy now that it's winding down lol.
  15. I'm applying to two schools. The college I'm currently attending has an ADN program that will start in January 2013 but all pre-reqs need to be done before Summer II sessions and another school is right near me and they have rolling admission so I'm crossing my fingers I can get in for Fall 2012 start.
