Just found out tonight that next year when I start the RN program, you must make at least 80% on each nursing exam to pass. I'm starting to kinda freak out about this!! I usually make at least 90% so far but I'm still really afraid I'll fail now. Does anyone else's program require an 80 on each exam?
What?! Wow...that is crazy!
Nursing exams are like no other, they take time to get accustomed to...you just can't walk in and 'get it' (at least not me).
Just curious, why don't they do an average?
I don't know!! The LPN is an average 85% or higher to pass. RN is 80% or higher on each test, not an average.
My school was 77%, but trust me, is a score you do not want to get as you would be all semester worried that you MUST do better on the next exam or fear to fail the class. Imagine if you go to the final with that score, the pressure is on to pass the final on that class. But at least you do not get booted for one bad exam, it more of the class score that they go by.
Also, some people do blank out on the first test during nursing school, then they find out, wow "I am in the big leagues now" and they perform better on the next one.

WHAAAT?! Maybe they're trying to weed out the LPN folks to make room for the RN program. Who knows. In order to do that, you would need to literally make nursing school your life. Some people have other priorities besides nursing school. Like, a family. A job. Kids. Social life.
Good luck with it! I wish you all the best in your nursing endeavors. Try not to focus on the numbers, and make sure you get tips from your instructors! (:
Our school is 72% overall. They will not factor in other projects, quizzes, etc. unless your test scores are 71.5 or higher.
My school has a great reputation and a super high NCLEX pass rate. I think these schools that require 80% on every exam are ridiculous. Ones ability to ace exam after exam doesn't necessarily mean they are going to make a good nurse.
I also want to add that we have a HESI, or similar exam, at the end of every semester that counts as an exam grade-- which is a much better indicator, imo, that you're 'getting it'-- than a single test score.

Ya I'm in the LPN program now and we have to have an 85% average for each course. I completely understand having high standards but I think almost everyone has had at least one bad test.
I know several nurses at the hospital I worked who said they made less than 80 on a couple tests so if they were in my class they would've failed. I guess each test could be the end of my nursing career
