Just found out tonight that next year when I start the RN program, you must make at least 80% on each nursing exam to pass. I'm starting to kinda freak out about this!! I usually make at least 90% so far but I'm still really afraid I'll fail now. Does anyone else's program require an 80 on each exam?

My school has that req too
Wow!! I mean I knew I'd have to have a final of at least 80% overall but this is scary. I mean 1 bad test or bad day and I'm out!
When I first started, my school reqd a 78, and was eventually changed to 80...no grandfathering anyone....and some professors will fail you by a fraction of a point...just trying to pass my last 3 classes

My school also requires an 80%. And there's no rounding up. even if you have a 79.9999% in the class they will still fail you.

i would have failed already.
I'm not talking about an average of 80% in each course, they said less than 80% on any one individual test and you fail!

My school requires 78% on each test. You're going to be dealing with people lives here, so i'm guessing that's why you are held to a higher standard in nursing school:up:

Yep. We have to have an average of at least 80% on exams before they will even factor in our other work to adjust our grade, and less than an 80% on any one test is a fail for that test. So if we have a 79% avg on exams and 100s on our quizzes, they wont even look at them. We fail. They have a pretty high fail/drop rate, too. But I look at it like this: our school has a great reputation for churning out really great nurses with a crazy high NCLEX pass rate. In my area, having my school on your resume is huge points. So while I could gripe about how hard it is or how unfair it is that they wont round up a fraction of a point, the NCLEX doesn't round up either. They could dumb it down so I could pass class and then set me up for failure in the real world, or hold me to high standards and ensure I make it and am successful. I'm paying for a good education, and I'm getting it. I just have to work harder for it. There is a reason that nursing school is a more challenging degree...the career is more high-stakes than most others.
