How many must make 80% or better on each exam?

Published

Just found out tonight that next year when I start the RN program, you must make at least 80% on each nursing exam to pass. I'm starting to kinda freak out about this!! I usually make at least 90% so far but I'm still really afraid I'll fail now. Does anyone else's program require an 80 on each exam?

Mine requires an 84%, or fail.

We have to have better than 80% on everything (course grade, exams, etc) in order to pass. Our department chair put it to us this way: "this isn't done to give you anxiety or add any more stress. Ultimately, it comes down to the quality of nurses we are building here. I wouldn't want a C nurse taking care of my family, and I don't think you would, either."

When she put it that way, I can totally understand why they've implemented the scale.

My school required a 75..... 75 was considered a "C"... You had to have a C to pass

My school only required a 75.... A 75 was considered a "C".... You had to have a C to pass nursing school

I just applied to a school where below 76% is a fail. I heard that this standard is set because if you can't get above 76% in school you would fail the NCLEX.

My school also requires an 80%. And there's no rounding up. even if you have a 79.9999% in the class they will still fail you.

Same thing here (with the rounding...they won't budge - 77% is passing, anything below is failing...).

I'm not talking about an average of 80% in each course, they said less than 80% on any one individual test and you fail!

What?! Wow...that is crazy!

Nursing exams are like no other, they take time to get accustomed to...you just can't walk in and 'get it' (at least not me).

Just curious, why don't they do an average?

That seems insane.

We have to get an 80% average, but not at least an 80% on all the tests.

My school requires an overall average of 75% no rounding. I pray they don't switch it within the next year that would suck right before graduation! :-)

No requirements on each test, but you have to make an 80% in each class. I've yet to make a C in nursing school...have made all B's...so it's doable.

Ours is 76 or above (average) or you fail. Our first pharm test- 5 people failed. It's stressful, but not impossible if you study!

We have to make an 80 as well and that is considered a C :/
