Houston Nurse Residency Summer 2021 Applicants

Published

I wanted to start a new thread for those of us applying to Houston new grad nurse residency programs to ask questions and share information.

I am brand new to this site so I hope I'm doing this correctly... Good luck everyone!

I was able to attend. I took this screen shot of the units that are hiring and the FAQ. They said there is not a set amount they hire, that it’s based on how many apply to each unit and they strongly encouraged that we apply to whatever unit we feel passionate about!

They strongly encouraged that we just apply to the units we want, to avoid being sad for a year! but then for those who attended , do you think they consider you for your first and second choice? I would hate to not be considered for my first choice and then spots for my second choice are already filled up.

The way Shamika the program coordinator explained it was that it’s better to apply to either CMHH OR TMC as your first choice and put a satellite hospital like The Woodlands etc as your second choice simply because they get SO many applicants at TMC and you want to increase your chances.

No. she said that CMHH and TMC are the same campus. so if you put CMHH as first and TMC as second, it will be harder to get into TMC as your second choice (if you were passed on for your first choice) because they get so many applicants that they typically don’t see many people get into CMHH or TMC by their second choice. She said the satellite hospitals don’t get nearly as many applications as the two in the med center which means if TMC/CMHH passes on you you’re more likely to get into a satellite as a second choice because they don’t have as many applicants. I hope that makes sense, it’s kind of hard to explain

Did anyone actually put in two separate applications for HM? I've never heard of anyone doing something like that before

What was yall's second choice location for Houston Methodist? I put Sugarland bc I wasn't familiar with any of the locations so I just put one. I hope its not a super competitive one

I live in the north houston area, so I put Willowbrook and The Woodlands. Willowbrook is like 10 mins from my house.

I live in the southwest area, so I put Houston Methodist Sugar land  for my second location. It’s in a cool area, it’s close to the first colony mall and other restaurants . I’ve only been to the L&D department cause I was with my aunt while she gave birth.

Can't believe we won't hear back from Harris Health until mid march-April that seems like forever...

I am late for the party. I just submitted my Harris Health application waiting for my GN packet to submit my LOR and etc. I already have a pre-condtional offer with HCA Kingwood. I also have applied to Methodist Houston, Methodist Dallas, Chi St Luke and Baylor. I moved from Houston area after completing my associate to dfw to pursue BSN. I graduate in less than 89 days. Good luck to us all!!!
