I wanted to start a new thread for those of us applying to Houston new grad nurse residency programs to ask questions and share information.
I am brand new to this site so I hope I'm doing this correctly... Good luck everyone!
Does anybody know how to increase your chances of being accepted into a residency programs in the med center? I am graduating with like a 3.6 with honors but I just feel like SO many people apply how does your application just not get lost? IDK I’m just being so down on myself today...LOL. Anybody else relate? ? like what in the world do they look for?

I honestly think you’re good. My GPA is less than that and at this point I’m beginning to think I might not even get a job, I’ve been so depressed and after seeing how many people attended the pre match day for children’s memorial hermann, it got me overthinking and I fell sick ?. So as of right now we’ll just send what they want I have no idea how to stand out, but just pray I get the best for me.

I did pre match for children’s too and was just shocked. I think I am most concerned bc I attend nursing school in Louisiana but “home” is htx so I hope that doesn’t decrease my chances UGH. Just gotta stay positive

I went to prematch day for CMHH too and the amount of people was very intimidating, but I just remind myself that almost all (if not all) of the units are hiring so hopefully they’re going to accept a good chunk of us… they were also very adamant about just being yourself and if whatever unit you pick is truly your passion then that will show through in your interview and make you stand out from the people who just like the idea of working with kids.

I put Sugarland as my second choice location too. I didn't know it was competitive compared to other locations maybe I would've put something else LOL. Hopefully they're hiring a good bit in the ER...

My nursing GPA is only a 3.2 so I'm totally freaked out. I feel like people who went to school there and did clinicals there have an upper hand

What classes are considered towards your nursing GPA at your school? I’ve heard different things from every school. Like my school doesn’t include your first semester of nursing school in your nursing GPA it’s annoying

I feel the same way! I’m pushing for children’s in the NICU & I know how competitive it is which have me spook! Plus I only have my ADN ? I’m a internal candidate though so they’ll still consider me but still very intimidating. Good luck to us all!
