What is going on? The students here at the HS are always letting me in on the scoop. A girl said on Social Media 3 students threaten to shoot up the school yesterday and were arrested. Now today a different girl says tomorrow...a boy or boys are going to blow up or shoot up the school. I asked why and she said one boy is failing with a 14 in one class and he told the teacher change it or I will shoot you. OMg. She said most of the students are NOT coming tomorrow. What? Social Media is feeding these kids into venting, threatening and copying the evil of this world. Your thoughts. Is it just my area?
Believe yesterday, somewhere in Maryland they arrested a high-school kid(s) 1 kid on the bus overheard a student stating something about shooting up a school...he told his parents, who contacted the police.....Found quite a few guns/rifles that belonged to his father....all licensed, but not properly stowed
A HS student in my district was arrested the day after the Parkland shooting for bringing a gun to school, same thing happened in 2 other districts in the area. Ridiculous.
There are parents who don't trust the schools to protect their kids. They would rather have their kids alive and expelled than dead. I don't agree, but understand the fear.
There were rumors of a threat at my local high school. According to our superintendent they were thoroughly checked & determined to be just rumors.
The high school that my baby will be attending next year... The high school in the district I attended... Times have sure changed. It makes me ill to think about.
OMG reading what is being wrote by my professional peers in the school is scary. My children are all grown and I am not a school nurse I do teach Sunday School to teens though.
I cannot help but think what Mental Health Issues and bad behavior these kids have. We need to start thinking of mental health as a medical condition and not separate the two. The thought of harming another individual to me is scary.
I do not know what the answers to solve these issues would be, am at a loss because although I think law enforcement should enter the picture once a person is introduced to this environment (I am a former prison healthcare manager) they only learn to hone their anger, their "craft" of steeling...what ever it is. They learn to talk the talk, leave and practice what they are even more but now it is harder to discover.
I do think this, coming from a highly dysfunctional family (5 half sister who are meth heads and prostitutes since they were 14): environment has a lot to do with their behavior. I left and never looked back, went to college and made something of myself. They stayed around in an environment that bubbled with violence, abuse, and manipulation and learned to be better at this each year.
Getting away from the environment does help and I think the time away (my observation from inmates) should be lengthy...at the 2 year mark inmates think before they act when they go back into the environment that got them in trouble. They seem (not all) to have some what of an awareness that what they are in is abnormal and will seek out behavior modifications to combat the environment.
I think (again observation from the prison environment) that support groups should be mandatory with random people where they are taught to get along, to listen politely to others view points/feelings/concerns and accolades. To start to learn what kind of behavior they are presenting based on Ericksons stages. No cliques allowed and the group changes every 90 days randomly. I think allowing idle time i.e. putting child in time out is not good. I never let my kids go to time out...they pulled weeds. I told them they had from here to there to pull all the weeds I do not care if it takes you 5 mins or 5 hours you have to get the job done, I did not want them to think about what they did, but wanted them to know there are consequences for their actions.
Peers please be safe for these young children/adults have no self awareness, and no situation awareness. Be on your guard and have that awareness not only for yourselves but for other students as well.
Lastly I know you have a hard job and I thank you for your willingness to be there to make a difference. My heart is sad for our future population.
The morals of our society have been worn down since about the 1960's, replaced with "tolerance" and political correctness in regard to anything and everything.
Old-fashioned discipline, pride in and respect for family, self, community, and country, not to mention the positive role of religion, and self-control are merely words now.
"rights" are in, along with having abortions or being single parents and exploring sexuality/gender. "Compassion" rules, not good sense. There is a time for just about everything, but we have gone off the deep end.
Time to shut down the US Dept of Education. Local control of schools is necessary.
News media need to stop splaying terrible incidents all over the TV, internet, etc., beyond a few stories reporting what happens. but keeping it up for days on end just encourages fear and copycats. Social media need to be greatly lessened.
FBI apparent errors, failures by those to whom Cruz was reported helped this happen, it seems. Not being an insider, I don't really know the details.
Where are his birth parents? What about this large estate Cruz is said to have?
I hope we can remain calm and courteous and just have a civil exchange of ideas.
Peace.

There was a bomb threat and eventual evacuation not far from me yesterday. Sick and scary.
