Nurses COVID
Published Oct 29, 2014
There's a petition on a website to have nurse Kaci Hickox's license revoked for refusing quarantine after working directly with Ebola patients in West africa.

comment already addressed. on the other hand, have to report that my non medical brother has a better handle on this then a good portion of the nurses here. he understands that there is no need for a quarantine. though as a plumber he does have some grasp of infection control.....

Just a staff reminder: per our terms of service, we have deleted the link as we do not allow petitions.
This is a great conversation though....

I saw that too and giggled to myself.

At the pace and rate that our recent Congressional leadership have accomplished things, asking them to save us from ebola would be like asking a legless and armless man run to the river and fetch water to put out the Chicago fire.

He'd still get that done faster than Congress getting something done.

What website was the source of this screen shot? Surely not ...AllNurses.
Oh. Perhaps that "evidence-based" thang hasn't made it to the advertising department.

That's the Allnurses app for mobile devices.

This is my thing...it is always best to be safe than sorry. Since much is not known about Ebola, what harm is coming to her by being in quarantine. ....
How happy would you be to be stuck in a tent with no running water, flush toilet and denied access to your friends and family?
Especially when you had already tested negative twice to the disease

Was her quarantine like a PAID forced vacation? I would have a least demanded the tent be set up on grass, instead of in the parking lot!
And what about the woman on another thread who took 8 (yes, eight) pregnancy tests that came out negative and then she went to the ER and delivered a full-term baby within three hours of arrival?
Just sticking a silly, stupid comment in here before I unsubscribe. Couldn't resist.
Everyone keeps saying evidence based practice, please show me these studies that you are defending that support this nurse's stance of refusing quarantine.
Show me the evidence that supports the practice of quarantening a person who has tested negative twice (for ebola) and has showed absolutely no symptoms since
I would also like to know which of you would be willing to participate in a study to find out exactly how quickly it can be contracted or exactly how long it takes to incubate.
You'd never get a study like that past the ethics committee. Not to mention we know that its most infectious when a person is symptomatic. We also know how long it takes to incubate, hence the 3 week quarantine
For the nurses saying that commend her, when you paid your fee to be licensed by your home state, you willingly accepted to follow the laws of your state (however ridiculous they may sound to you). If she willingly decides to break that law, she should be punished just as any other law abiding citizen.
Problem is, the 3 week quarantine is not law. Its a reaction by politicans in response to public hysteria. So before you run off in an state of high dudgeon this lady has not broken any law.
Now I am really concerned about how many nurses are breaking laws because they do not agree with them. What's crazy is the hospital does this all the time to patients. How many times have we argued with patients about not leaving the floor, or not to take their personal medications, or not to smoke in their rooms, or not to eat when they are NPO, or that we're not disclosing the results of their test because the physician has not spoken with them first, or restricting visitation because their family is worrisome......
Actually when patients are admitted to hospital, they sign a consent form that allows the hospital to treat them. The reality is should they choose not adhere to treatment they can discharge AMA
By your arguments, I should be demanding that my right to do what I want in my car supersede the state's law because it's my civil right to be able to move freely in my car without restriction.
This has to be one of the dumbest arguements I've read in a long time (sorry bout the snappy 2 hours sleep following night shift does this to me)
Its a law of the land to use a seat belt. You can claim civil rights all you like however you dont do it you'll get fined
The 21 day quarantine is not law.
she was angered about something and that's why her forehead was hot?. So it seems everyone would rather chance bringing another disease to America that has no cure, no vaccination, and no treatment because a study has not been done. I don't care how "uneasy" anyone claims it is, the fact that it has a 70% mortality rate and can kill you within a matter of days is reason enough to be particularly careful in preventing its spread on American soil. Why play with people's lives like that all because you are too selfish to stay at home for a few weeks. If it's not causing you harm to stay at home, then why not do it. Because you could surely cause harm by not doing so. Be safe, not sorry.
She was asymptomatic and had tested negative twice. There is no risk with Kaci
And she wasnt confined to home, she was stuck in a tent in a hospital care park. With no running water or decent toilet. She was denied access to her lawyer and her family. The ironic thing is that had authorities asked Kaci to self quarantene at home, none of this would have happened.
