Thought for sure I would see an uproar about this restaurant in Az featured on ACB's 20/20. The waitresses wear slutty Media-type 'nurses' outfits and roll their bloated patrons to their car in a w/c after they gorge themselves on unhealthy foods. It was featured on 20/20s Gimme a Break last pm. John Stossel says Gimme a Break about nurses being upset over the image. IMO the person who was defending the "real nurses" did a very poor job.

Anyone else see it??

What about Hooters, the restaurant chain that only hires attractive and well endowed women as waitresses? I think they get away with it.

It's been a long time ago but Hooters did go through a court battle over the hiring of only females as servers. Hooters went public with it and I can still remember the billboard ads with the image of a chubby, ugly, hairy male wearing a Hooters outfit. YUCK! SCARY! I have forgotten the wording of the ad but it was something to the effect of "who would you rather have serving you?" Hooters won out :D ...

There is a line that must be drawn with common sense...

The BON should not have gotten involved with this issue...what a trivial matter to get involved in! How about nurse patient-ratios/wages, etc as another person mentioned? The fact that our boards who are supposed to be rallying for better working conditions, yet waste their time bickering over a crappy resturaunt whose waitresses wear SPOOF NURSE COSTUMES does more to hurt the nursing image than the resturaunt does. Does that make sense to anyone?

The AZ BON wrote a cease an decist letter to my wife's vet's office...She is a vet tech, and the DVM wanted to call his techs vet nurses...

The board's response was something to the effect of the public confusing vet nurses w/ registered nurses...

Absurd...

see my above post...The AZ BON seems to think they can rule w/ an iron fist in this regard...

she starts IVs, caths, assesses, even intubates in the OR...

they didn't want to call themselves registered nurses...just veterinary nurses...

me thinks the public knows the difference

the BON was out of line; they used the same argument that they use for nurse imposters...

the vet (and his staff) had a laugh, but dropped the idea...

I have mixed feelings. While I don't think females should be looked at as mere sex toys by any means (my husband tells everyone I'm the brains in the family hehe) I'm trying to picture a similar concept:

What if they expanded their whole concept and had like 3 alarm smoking hot chili or some menu item so bad it oughta be against the law - and had hot young guys dressed as firefighters and police officers. Would the firefighters and police officers be so upset?

Of course we are comparing male dominated with female dominated professions and maybe that is the catch - but I highly suspect it might be a bit of a double standard.

I don't really have a strong opinion either way - just doing my typical analyzation with some more food for thought (no pun intended!) :innerconf

Personally, I would not eat at this resturaunt for the same reasons I don't eat at hooters, or any other resturaunts that exploit women. That's the real issue at hand.

The restaurants may have a hand in exploiting women, but the women who are choosing to work in such establishments are just as guilty of exploiting themselves.

I too saw this piece on 20/20 and well, yeah, I was offended in that there is nothing sexually suggestive in real nursing attire or nursing behavior at all. To sham the public under the guise of "naughty nurses" is just straight up stupid to me, and a business owners demeaning way of luring patrons and female employees into his funky eatery. The owner would have gotten just as much business if he had placed a few poles in the restaurant with the waitresses swinging from them in Media gear after they take the order.
