Have you ever NOT shown up when you were scheduled to work?

I recently did NOT show up for work - when i was scheduled to - on accident. I looked over my schedule at least 100 times, and for sure though I was supposed to work on a Friday, but I was actually scheduled to work the night before that - a Thursday. So I got a call asking where I was and ended up coming in 4 hours late. I felt like such a moron. Has anything like that happened to any of you??

Once in 20 years. My co-worker and I usually get to work quite early and she saw I was on the schedule but not there yet and I also I said on the phone to her that I wasn't working til much later in the week. She called me I literally dropped everything, I was baking, jumped in the shower, and got to work only 10 minutes late. My heart rate didn't slow down for over an hour. My husband was left with quite a mess to clean up. :wink2:

Once, I had my schedule, and was "off" but got a phone call that said I was to be there... I went in (new nurse syndrome... scared....) and discovered that my marked "off" day had been marked off with white out, and hours had been written in.

Since then, I print off the new schedule, and post it here at home, and I follow what it says.

I did that once. I forgot I had to work. They called me at home and I got there about 15 minutes late. I felt so stupid.

I have also gone in on a day I wasn't scheduled. They let me stay.

I think everyone does it once.

Yes it happened to me when I worked as a carer in a nursing home. I was actually looking at the old roster and thought I had the shift off.

I got a call 'where are you?, you were supposed to be here 20 minutes ago'.

I realised that I'd made a mistake straight away. But given the unforgiving nature of management I decided that admitting to it would only cause more problems.

I said 'Oh I was just about to call you. Had some car trouble but someone is just about to take me in. I will be there in 10 minutes and I will stay back half an hour to make up for it'.

once -- in 30 years. i ended up being late by about two hours. my manager had taken an assignment and turned it over to me when i got there. she laughed it off, since i didn't have a reputation for skipping work.

when my husband and i got married, we were working in the same icu, and one of his former girlfriends was the assistant manager. when we left town to get married, i left work 30 minutes before the schedule was due to be posted. i looked at it then to make sure i knew when we were both due back at work -- no surprises. we were both due back may 15. after our wedding, we were at a lovely beach hotel on may 10 when i got a call on my cell looking for dh. "he's supposed to be at work today."

dh's former girlfriend had changed the schedule to mess with him, evidently because she was angry that he was getting married. it seems rather odd, because at that point she had a husband and two kids!

I got a call once a 7:30 am - (shift starts).

Manager: Whatcha doing?

Me; Um -sleeping.

Manger: Gee, thats nice. You're suppossed to be working.

Me: Un-ua! I'm working Sat/Sun/Mon

Manager: No - you're working Fri/Sat/Sun

Me - !#$%% . I'll be right there!

Got there in about 45 minutes. Took a lot of good natured ribbing for the rest of the day! :)

I've only had one "no call, no show" in 14 years, and it was because someone changed my schedule without notifying me. I was scheduled to work a Thursday night and didn't show - my schedule showed that I was to work Wednesday night. Then I went to working the same days every week...ended that problem right there. I also had quite a heated discussion with my manager and all was forgiven.:yeah:

I've not shown up 3 times in 20+ yrs, I've also shown up when not scheduled, I think all of the staff have screwed up on occasion, half the time you don't know whether your'e comin' or goin'

I woke up at 4 in the morning one time and looked around figuring out that it was not 4 in the afternoon and realizing that I was supposed to be at work at 11. I immediately called in and told the supervisor that I had overslept. I asked if she wanted me to come in and finish the shift and she said no. I didn't even get chewed out or anything. Unfortunately I couldn't go back to sleep.

I did it the FIRST day I was off orientation as a new nurse, I was also out of town and my parents lived in the sticks and we didn't have any other phone so I didn't get the call until I got home at about 9pm that night so needless to say I missed that shift completely. I about had a nervous breakdown and found my manager's home phone number online and called to apologize and I worked the weekend to make up for it. When I talked to her I was crying so hard I could barely talk, begging her not to fire me. She started laughing as hard as she could about it and was happy I cared so much but that it wasn't a big deal and thankfully we weren't short that day.

I have also shown up when I wasn't scheduled to be there. Don't be too hard on yourself over it, most of the time they are just checking to make sure youre not dead!

Once I showed up when I wasn't scheduled. It was wonderful to go back home again; felt like a gift! We had a nights charge that just didn't show up and it was a speciality unit. She wasn't answering her phone so they sent the police to bring her into the hospital. There's a reality check for you. I also saw them once call in a med-surg nurse and tell her she was scheduled and late for evenings. She was very upset, as she was in the middle of her small son's birthday party, with guests, etc. When she got there, she checked staffing's schedule and they had called her in when she wasn't even on the schedule. She quit not long after that.
