What Members Are Saying (AI-Generated Summary)

Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.

Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

Thanks for the advice every1.... I took a MA level advanced stats many moons ago, but the upper division level class doesn't transfer. I aced the class so it's a damn shame. I think I'm gonna dive right into research

Why doesn't it transfer, do you know? That doesn't make sense, but I do understand there are many different kinds of statistics classes. However, this is an INTRO, so you would think any thing higher than intro would work.

Weird.

There is no CLC for the capstone. That class is a lot of work all by itself.

I didn't mind the CLC for patho. It was a paper and a dialogue. They both are based on a video from the GCU library you have to watch. 2 of us wrote the paper, and the other 2 wrote the dialogue. It was actually one of the easier CLC's, IMO.

The CLC for trends is like the rest...the group will sit around waiting for a leader to step forward to tell them what to do, and the leader will have to pull teeth to get it done.

So far I have lucked out on my CLC groups....no real issues and if you have a good group----they are fairly easy...but of course many others have not been so lucky! makes you wonder how some operate on an actual hospital floor.....they are prob the ones that don't help out..just be a real pain in the butt, lol I usually try and take the lead...just getting everyone in touch and get it going...get the tasks sorted out and thats it hopefully!! It really should be that easy!

The slacker clc members are the same slacker co workers.

The Advanced Stats doesn't transfer bc it's a masters level course not a BA level course... Ya I know it's dumb

I can pass on a great Stats prof if you so desire..she does her own Youtube videos as well

I am a few classes away but would love a recommendation of a great stats professor. Even if I don't get him/her can someone pass along the name so I can search youtube for the videos? No reason I can't use their videos with whoever I get for the class, right?

Thank you all!

Make sure and ask your instructor, and I cannot remember exactly but something about each instructor likes either a certain amount of rounding to decimal points or percentages, I can't remember it has flown the coop. Anyone remember what I am talking about? :oldman: My brain is feeling as old as this emotie!

SO here is an update for me. Started GCU Nov. 10th, A- in Professional Dynamics (kicking myself for not using the rubric for one assignment and only going off of the description- the points missed for a missing chunk in my paper made the difference between the A- and A. Probably would have caught it too if I wasn't rushing to have it turned in before midnight). APA format is tough. I am so happy that the instructors highlight and edit any issues with formatting or in-text citations so I know for the next time. I haven't downloaded any of the grammar or pearl something yet. When will it really be needed? Also- you guys have me in fear for research. I took stats. I remember nothing. Math is my WORST subject. Please tell me its not really all that involved.

One week down in Family-Centered Health and now on break 'til the 4th. Woo! I hate 'turn-it-in' because of the wait when I'm trying to submit by midnight, really close to midnight, so I turned in an assignment at 00:00:08. Hopefully this doesn't count against my grade. Has anyone ever had any issues?

My first course, I pretty much did the entire CLC everything, powerpoint. forum chats, etc. It was insanely frustrating. Luckily this second course my group members are much more proactive and while I started us all out, many jumped on board quickly. Fingers crossed it goes smoothly. Anyone have any suggestions on CLCs and group members? I quickly found out being the first person to respond ends up making you the one who does the most, but how can I make the workload easier on myself even though I am fairly proactive?

I swear I was able to see all my future instructors at one point when I logged onto my GCU account- now I can't find where. Does anyone know?

Also- please send instructor suggestions. I loved my first instructor and this second one seems okay so far too.

I am so happy to have this little break and hope I actually use it to get ahead in the course.

HEALTH ASSESSMENT is next- any recommendations or insight?

I've never used an APA program. I just use the template they gave me in the first class and in research and try to learn the rules. I had a CLC member who was editing using PERLA who gave me a paper with all kinds of errors. So I think this isn't a no work solution. You have to know the rules anyway.

Prism told us of a good way to get APA references of the books is to copy and paste from the syllabus. This is really handy! I also use citefast.com, which isn't perfect, but it is a nice way to keep them all together. you could use a word document too.

I didn't take stats and I did fine in research. I thought the class was fun and I read a lot of interesting articles. I know I just paraphrased the statistical info of the articles into my papers and didn't get as much out of it as I could have so I am going to brush up before the capstone. You have to make sure you are using NURSING research though. To do this you can go to the GCU library. Select "Find Journal Articles." Look at where it says Find database by subject. Select Nursing & Health Sciences. This is the interesting part that the librarian told me about. Click on CINAHL Complete under recommended databases. It might ask you to log in. Then on that page you can select "peer reviewed" change the time frame to 2011-2014 (or whatever) and select research article. This will help you find relevant research articles suitable for the class.

So see your future instructors you can go to the student portal. On the left side click Academics. Then click Your Class Schedule. There you can see instructors and also section numbers.

I'm a really terrible student and I am doing ok! I know you can do it too!
