Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

I use Perrla and it is great. 1 nice feature of it..it saves ALL ur references.....A free one is EasyBib: Free Bibliography Generator - MLA, APA, Chicago citation styles

Yes you may see ur profs for upcoming classes...and then they may disappear......May even happy a day or 2 from course start! So if u get a prof u want-----KEEP CHECKING...as the just before course start, they may change!!

CLC groups----Best to take the lead and ensure you are polite and post a lot of info in the group forums.....why--profs can see those posts----they can't see ur personbal emails! yes I email a lot too...but if u are having issues with a student, u can either suck it up and just do their work--not an option I do, or you give them chances to improve, if they do not, you reach out to the prof. We all paid the same tuition.....I'm not here to do the work for others just to get their degree--sorry, not a babysitter. Now if they reach out for help, sure, more than happy to help out....but quite often you find out these loosers don't ask out for help until the near end...sorry, that does not cut it! In ur CLC contract, one has to be VERY specific, as some profs ask--well what does your CLC say in the case of a slacker?? I'm very upfront in my emails to the groups...more than happy to kelp out, ask in advance for help..not here to babysit!!

Yes best not to wait to last minute in turning in papers--says the guy that always does on Sundays,lol-----You will find quite often there are many of us that wait till Sunday---and yep that slows down the response from turn it in!! Best of luck

You may or may not be penalized for your paper being late. Like flame said give yourself some time because turn it in will be slow. You can lose Some serious points or refuse the paper all together. You won't be able to dispute either.

Clc, ain't no easy answer. I always seemed to take the lead, but I wanted a decent grade.

PEERLA is only add good as the user. I liked it though, especially for the capstone

I am starting January 6 with prof. dynamics, very nervous and anxious :nailbiting:, i suck at writting papers!!. Any advice/tips appreciated,

Thanks

Advice:

Try and do both Discussion Questuions (DQ's) early in the week. I try and do them on Sunday--and hand them both first thing Monday morning. Most (not all) profs require you to reference ur work in DQ's and same in ur response...... DQs do NOT have to be super long, just ensure you answer the question and sometimes it helps if you sort of ask a question at the end...makes it easy for others to reply to you..and you answer back....easy way to get those responses taken care of,lol I do that sometimes when I reply to others,

PAPERS:

read the rubric!!! It usually breaks down what is truly required

Don't wait until the weekend and start on the papers! Some profs may not be available if you have any questions!!

APA format: Many resources on the web! PERRLA is great--not perfect....but what is great about it--it stores ALL the refs that you have used. Of course my computer crashed awhile back---sucks to be me,lol A free one is easybib.com I have never used it

Grand canyon APA set up APA Format | Grand Canyon University

Don't forget to USE THE FREE LIBRARIANS!! Having trouble on finding resources, use them, most are great!! In the online classrom--you can find them under RESOURCES tab..then Library I believe

I'm fortunate to have a great proofreader--my wife. So if u know anyone..use them,lol

Start up a Facebook group!! I have one, and it has helped a great deal!!

Most headaches people have with the program are the group projects--or as u see here the CLC projects! They can be very easy if everyone does their share! But quite often, u get slackers! They do not do their share--they don't reply to emails..they are late in handing their stuff in. So those morons make it hard, lol I like to take the lead and get the ball rolling! For each of these group projects, one has to make a "contract" It states what everyone is responsible for, and what happens if they do not! You have to make these contracts very specific...as in many cases the prof will just say--what does ur contract state? And yes it is always good to email the group members, and if the group is all pulling their weight that is fine....keep in mind the prof can't see those emails! So it is very good to keep a fair bit of the conversation in the group forum chat area if u are having issues---as the prof can see those chats! I have been lucky and have had good groups--I prefer to do stuff away from the prying eyes of the school, I don't like to throw anyone under the bus.....but I'm not here to let people just walk all over me either!

Lot of the work is not super hard, just don't wait until Sunday to do it,lol And the school uses a program to check for plagiarism--it is called "Turn it in" Sometimes it can take awhile to get the results back--especially on a Sunday Afternoon/evening...as many people are using the services! I believe one has to get below 20% before you can submit it. Not sure on #, my papers are usually below 5%. So it is a 2 part process---you submit the paper to "turn it in" and usually within a few minites it says REPORT RECIEVED (refresh screen) and if it is below the #...then you submit it to the prof!

If the Loud/cloud online classroom is having issues..you can contact tech support and they will issue you a ticket #. Comes in handy if it is near a deadline and you can't access the system. You can email the prof with the ticket #...helps cover ur butt!!

Best of luck!

Hi all, I just enrolled at GCU and start Professional Dynamics on Monday the 29th. I cannot believe how close together the decision to enroll and my start date are.

I am going through the program with a friend from work. Any advice (especially about which instructors to study under or steer clear of) would be greatly appreciated!

Also, I took stats about 17 years ago, but they say it *might* transfer. Reading through some earlier posts I'm beginning to be a little worried about how much I don't remember. Can anyone recommend a youtube watchlist or a youtube content provider's name to check out?

Hi becca!

Check out another active thread that I started a couple years ago. There is a lot of good info.

I'm on my phone and I can't seem to copy the link. I know it's inn this thread, maybe a page or two back.

Anyway, welcome too gcu! Are you and your friend in the same class? You can also ask your instructor, in the private forum, if you can work together in the clc. Make sure to ask the first day. It's nice to have someone covering your back!

There are good and not do good instructors and we can pm some too avoid, and recommend.

Lastly..Stats..What I did was look ahead at the class description see what three topics were and read up on them. Ie...mean, median, mode, chi square, etc..

I had books too help me,(stats for dummies but many seem happy with online reading).

So Google...a lot and use whatever comes in handy and is taught how you would understand. Gcu instructors do have videos, but it's for excel use, and no help for you at this time.

Welcome SoulRN and beccajean!! I am in my 4th class and am enjoying the online format. The tips the others have given are really good and as you read these threads you will find they are a great source of information. Don't hesitate to ask as questions come up as you go through your courses. You will become more familiar with the whole process as you go through your first class, and yes, the papers do become easier to write after you have written several. Wishing you both the best of luck!

Hi all, I just enrolled at GCU and start Professional Dynamics on Monday the 29th.

Hello beccajean! They started you in the middle of Christmas break? Are you sure? So is your class technically 6 weeks long instead of 5 and, although your start date is 12/29, they don't want you to go into the online classroom or touch anything until 1/4? Not trying to mess you up LOL, just wondered what your advisor told you `cause it seems strange, right?

Hmmm...perplexing indeed. They said the class starts 12/29 and is 5 weeks, ending 2/1. My friend just talked to our advisor (I haven't talked to the advisor yet) and she was told not to touch anything in the course unless she sees my name on the roster. Maybe this ultra fast enrollment over Christmas break wasn't the best idea:no:
