Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?
Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?
Have they changed that? My advisor told me that the capstone couldn't be doubled up. I agree tokmom, that's one class to have all by itself. So much writing and tweaking...but then you're done!!! Yay!!
Not sure if they changed it or if it is an oversight. I called to request a specific instructor and they said there was a class starting 3/2 was I ok to double up one week with Patho. I wanted to have this instructor and figured I could swing one week since I typically work ahead.
Why not choose more of a generic topic, such as handwashing, compassion fatigue/burnout, how to reduce post op nausea/vomiting (does education help?) heart failure, does education reduce re-admission rates. Another one that is fairly common is quiet in hospitals and sleep quality. If you get stuck with developing a PICO, do a quick google search. This may also help you with your topic as well. :)
Oh my goodness, thanks so much Tokmom! These are great ideas and I am sure there is a ton of research, so I will be able to find enough articles. This is a tremendous help.
You know I think the grading of assignments are not.... lets just say that they are not always fair or reasonable. Just got back a paper from last week and it was like the instructor couldn't find anything substantial to knock points off so the instructor made something up. Can't say what it was without bringing attention to myself, but trust me it wasn't in the rubric or assignment description. I didn't need a 100% but don't make up the rules after the fact. I'll take my 98 whatever with a smile but it is infuriating sometimes.
After this class I am 1/3 completed. Oooops, is it one-third according to APA? Maybe it is 1/3....

My spirituality instructor was just like that but took off 15 + points.

I'm on my mini but there was a .gov site that had a TON of info on the PICO. Google is great advice.
Leadership, say bye bye to Winter!!!! Down to 2 classes and starting week 3 of Patho! Now to figure out how to write a case study.
JJ,The capstone made me break out in a cold sweat and I was so worried about it that I took one extra day off a week and I found my articles in December even though I wasn't going to be in the capstone until April. Once I was in the class, I found out it was very busy but doable. I think it helps to have a topic you have either a passion or interest, because you have to spend 5 weeks writing about it.
I also think it helps to have a good instructor. I can't imagine having an APA Godzilla. My prof was a stickler for APA and she expected the students, by the capstone, to know what they were doing. She would knock off a point or two and help correct the paper, so that was cool. She put a 110% into her teaching and getting us past the class.
Tokmom,
Thank you for your advice. I have no idea what to do my pico question on. I had a good one when I took research but it is not within my expertise (pediatrics). It had to do with why younger women tend to quit breastfeeding vs moms that may be starting out as first time parents in their late 20's. More geared towards why those who have had babies in their teens early 20s are less likely to continue breastfeeding within first 2-3 weeks of giving birth. I just whipped that up while I was in that class but I would rather have a subject it will be easy to find material on. How many articles will we need in capstone?
There is an example on the GCU website: search nursing case study
case study 1..fairly close to that..case study 2..not really, lol See how my marks turn out
