I thought it would be nice to have a 2009 Grad Thread we can share are joys, fears, stories (hippa permitting) Just to relieve the stress.
I am a 25 y.o. wife and mother of 3 girls ages 7,5 and 1. I have been in the medical field since 2001, but took all Allied health classes in high school. I am in my first of four semesters, doing the evening program, lasting 15 months.
Right now I am not really doing any core nursing classes, just A&P, nutrition and nurs 110 which is basically a 'history of nursing' class.
I was a paramedic, I have a degree in medical office management and STNA. I have taken the long route into nursing but finally feel I have found the right path. I graduate in July of 2009 and plan on entering ADN in Aug of 2009.
Come join me!!
I start on August 25th and graduate August 27th of 09. It's a full-time 8am to 4pm program, M-F, and I was going to work on the weekends and holidays during school but have recently decided not to. Right after my program is over, I'll start the process to enroll in the LPN to RN at the local university that offers it exclusively for adult learners with no degree. I'm 28, and I have 2 girls, 7 and 9 years old, and just moved up north to help take care of my mother who is terminally ill.
She's decided that she doesn't want anyone to care for her, and I got sick of putting my ex-husband, mother..etc etc first and not being able to take care of my kids as a result of not having an education. So, I'm finally about to go to school for what I want to do, and I'm excited. It hasn't started yet, but I keep telling myself that it's almost over. lol good luck everyone!
i can't wait for it to be over. i started my nights/weekends last Sept. we were originally slated to graduate on January 9, 2009 but the school determined that we wouldn't have enough hours by then, so they pushed us back to January 29. go figure.
don't really like the whole school experience. wish it was over. our teachers suck, the administration is all about the money, I am benefitting from teaching myself just as well as if we had actual teachers who knew what they were doing.
anyone else feel this way?

Hi everyone. I just finished my 5th week of nursing school. My school goes 11 months. It's been very stressful for me. Most of the people here are locals. I relocated 8 hrs from home to go to school in a rural area, since it's more competitive in the SF bay area where I used to live. It's been hard here having so much work and stress and not really having much of a support system. However, I am really excited and feel fortunate to be in the program. I know how hard it is to get in. There are so many different personalities in my class, and also gossip, but I'm trying to just stay focussed on my goal of becoming a good nurse and learning as much as I can. It can be overwhelming. Just started clinicals last week in subacute. It's sad seeing all the people on trachs and G-tubes. A lot of them have pictures of their kids on the wall, and letters. I try not to let the emotional aspect get to me.
Some of the nurses and CNAs at the hospital roll their eyes and sigh when the new student nurses come in, but others are very helpful. I guess it just depends. I try to stay focussed on the positive, because if i let all the little stuff get to me, it just makes it harder. I hope this year goes by fast! I am hoping to do an RN bridge programs but most of the schools in CA require that you have some work experience as an LVN. So that's my plan. Good luck to all of you. I know we can do it!
Hello everyone..
Im a 25 year old wife to a Marine, and we have a 1 1/2 year old daughter. I started LPN school in April in VA. My program is evenings and is 18 months long. Our projected graduation is October 2009. I have enjoyed thus far. Our class really works well together, and Im excited for clinicals starting up in two weeks. I am having a positive experience for the most part. Just ready to get thorugh it and start working soon.
Hi everyone! I am starting my LPN program in less than a month and will graduate the first week of June '09 I'm a single mom of a 3yr old. I am going the LPN route because it basically holds my seat in the RN programs for next fall. So my plan is to graduate in June and start my RN that August. I haven't yet decided if I'll work as an LPN while in school: the benefits and steady paycheck sure will be nice, but I don't know if it will be too stressful. I guess once I start clinicals I'll have a better idea.
Looking forward to getting to know everyone!
hello everyone,
I will be starting an 11month LPN prorgram August 18, graduating July 2009! Yeah! I have been taking pre-reqs online since last fall..Online is wayyyyy different than the classroom...I am excited about being in a class with other classmates, and an instructor...however, I have a few questions...I will not be able to work at my current job, when classes start..therefore I will need other means of living..as i am newly divorced with 2 kids(cant live on child support alone)..I will be applying for a student loan, but does anyone have anyother suggestions for receiving funds while in nursing school. I am in MS, EMCC Community College...anyone out there with any advice..thanks for your time.
Hello Everyone!
I am 45 years old....and starting my last of three semesters of LVN school. Finally on the home stretch!
My original plan was to attend RN school, but in San Diego there is a 3 year wait for the Associate RN Programs. I choose to get my LVN and then I will work on the transition to RN. I attend a vocational LVN program that is 18 months long. This program has allowed me to pay for school out of pocket and not take on any debt, as well as "no wait." They only accept 60 students a year and over 375 applied. The entrance exam to get in was brutal.....but I made it. We lost several students the 1st semester. They didn't pass A&P.
I have completed clinical rotations in Oncology, Ped's, OB, L&D, and Med Surg. This final semester we will do Leadership/Mentoring to the new incoming class of students in addition to our academic & clinical requirements.
I'm looking forward to the start of my new career and fulfilling my dream of 30+ years.......being a "Nurse". It has been a long journey, but one that I would not trade for anything. The saying...."Life begins at 40" has proved to be true for me.
Good luck to all of you!
