I thought it would be nice to have a 2009 Grad Thread we can share are joys, fears, stories (hippa permitting) Just to relieve the stress.
I am a 25 y.o. wife and mother of 3 girls ages 7,5 and 1. I have been in the medical field since 2001, but took all Allied health classes in high school. I am in my first of four semesters, doing the evening program, lasting 15 months.
Right now I am not really doing any core nursing classes, just A&P, nutrition and nurs 110 which is basically a 'history of nursing' class.
I was a paramedic, I have a degree in medical office management and STNA. I have taken the long route into nursing but finally feel I have found the right path. I graduate in July of 2009 and plan on entering ADN in Aug of 2009.
Come join me!!
Hiim a 24 year old mother of 1 starting my 9 month lpn program in Sept ending in June. Nervous plan on pursuing a accelerated lpn to rn program at Helene Fuld or Hopfer (ny)
hello hrlma
congrats on getting into nursing school:yeah:
I've never heard of a 9 month program. if u dont mind me askin what is the schedule like?
Hello Everyone!I am 45 years old....and starting my last of three semesters of LVN school. Finally on the home stretch!
My original plan was to attend RN school, but in San Diego there is a 3 year wait for the Associate RN Programs. I choose to get my LVN and then I will work on the transition to RN. I attend a vocational LVN program that is 18 months long. This program has allowed me to pay for school out of pocket and not take on any debt, as well as "no wait." They only accept 60 students a year and over 375 applied. The entrance exam to get in was brutal.....but I made it. We lost several students the 1st semester. They didn't pass A&P.
I have completed clinical rotations in Oncology, Ped's, OB, L&D, and Med Surg. This final semester we will do Leadership/Mentoring to the new incoming class of students in addition to our academic & clinical requirements.
I'm looking forward to the start of my new career and fulfilling my dream of 30+ years.......being a "Nurse". It has been a long journey, but one that I would not trade for anything. The saying...."Life begins at 40" has proved to be true for me.
Good luck to all of you!
Hi tlombardi,
Welcome to my world! I'm 46 y.o. and put my nursing dream on hold for about 20 years. I too live in So. Cal, but not in SD area. Started my LVN program 6/30/08 and intend to graduate, with God's help, June 2009. I'm so looking forward to graduation!
Currently, I'm in my first round of clinicals, a 4-month rotation at a local large acute facilityabout 25 minutes from home. I'm serving patients on the Med-Surg floor and it's been quite an eye-opening experience for this vintage gal who's been home all these years raising 4 children. Sort of like culture shock is how I'd describe my clinical experience at first. It was scary those first few weeks, but now it's feeling more like any other God-given day. Sometimes tough, other times relatively easy. The best part is coming home to my family after a long day. (Home is still where my heart is.) Come January '09, it's off to another facility. May be another acute facility or SNF; I haven't been told yet. After that, it's off to Peds & OB/L&D at County USC Hospital in L.A. I don't think I have an Oncology rotation in my program.
I truly love serving my patients...yes, even the grumpy ones.
Wishing you well. :heartbeat
I'm a 23 year old wife, mother, and Certified Medical Assistant who is back in school to fulfill my dreams of becoming a nurse. I'm in a 12-month program and my official graduation date is Aug. 27th, 2009. (Believe me-i'm counting!)
School is intense; I have 4 subjects right now: Basic Nursing, Anatomy, Nutrition, and Math, but I really enjoy it. 2 more weeks and I start clinical in LTC--woo!
hello to all!!
i'm a 40 yo beautiful wife and mom to 2 wonderful kids (1 is 15 & 1 just turned 21) from philly pa. i received my acceptance ltr to the pa institute of technology (pit) last month; i'll be starting their program in january '09-orientation is in december '08-and, god willing, be finished by the end of december '09. after too many years spent in the trenches as a medical assistant (although i am truly grateful for the experience gained by working with geriatricians and their elderly patient base-for it has allowed me to know that i actually want to work in ltc with our older population), i am finally able to pursue my dream! :heartbeat:redbeathe woo-hoo!!!!!
i'm very fortunate to have the love and support of both family and friends; i hope that everyone out there does well.
