2009 Grads! Come 1 Come ALL!

Published

I thought it would be nice to have a 2009 Grad Thread we can share are joys, fears, stories (hippa permitting) Just to relieve the stress.

I am a 25 y.o. wife and mother of 3 girls ages 7,5 and 1. I have been in the medical field since 2001, but took all Allied health classes in high school. I am in my first of four semesters, doing the evening program, lasting 15 months.

Right now I am not really doing any core nursing classes, just A&P, nutrition and nurs 110 which is basically a 'history of nursing' class.

I was a paramedic, I have a degree in medical office management and STNA. I have taken the long route into nursing but finally feel I have found the right path. I graduate in July of 2009 and plan on entering ADN in Aug of 2009.

Come join me!!

Specializes in Coronary Rehab Unit.

50 yr old dad of 2, here ...... this is a total career change, and a great opportunity - a local hospital is paying for everything (books, tuition, with a couple of grants covering uniforms, state boards, etc). Expected graduation is in March of '09 ......just have to "work it off" (no payroll deduction, just have to work there) for a couple of years at the hosp, or work elsewhere and pay it back - either way, it's a great opportunity, the way things had been in my previous field of employment....Wishing the best to one and all

Hello everyone! I will graduate in May of 2009!

Specializes in EMS~ ALS.../...Bartending ~ Psych :).

Hey Hey..... 43, divorced mom, with 17 yo daughter, 13 yo son, starting LPN at local Vo-tech in Aug. 12 month program so Aug 09 will graduate. Was in EMS (EMT & medic) for about 8 years, but been out of it for the past 4 years. Now a Bartender, and will continue to do so thru L.P.N school. Plan to go on for RN and will more then likely shoot for the E.R. or L&D, although I wouldn't mind working for a VA hospital. Hoping that by the time my son graduates HS, I will be an RN with enough experience to be a travel nurse. So I can just spread my wings and fly in whichever direction I want to go!

Good Luck to all of you!

I am going to start a private hospital based program, and I can't wait, the only hard thing about this type of program is financial aid and you cant borrow money to pay for school because they do not participate with with any financial assistance.

Hello everyone I started Sept 2008 and finish Feb 2009 cant wait. I am a 26 year old engaged mother of two handsome boys almost 7 and 5. My class started at 25 people and now were down to 15 so its a pretty intense 15 month program. Tommorow is our finals so wish us luck!!

Hi all!,

I will be starting July 08 and finishing July 09. We have 2 little girls, hubby will be shipped off in a few weeks for marines, but I'm excited about the program!

Specializes in nurse aide and nursing school.

I am a 34 years old and have worked as a CNA for 10 years. I have three girls ages 14, 11, 5 and I just got accepted in to LPN program to start Jan 12 2009. I will graduate in December of 2009. It will be hard but with hard work we will all do good in school. Best of Luck to all!!!!!!!:heartbeat

Hi. Im 20 yrs old and happily married for the past 3 months! I start on august 18th and expected graduation is for july 21st. I started out on the track to RN and I'm about 3 sciences away from my associates (general studies) and I would have started RN but the waiting list was about two yrs!!... and a sister gotta' eat!! *wine

So on a whim I decided to go to an LPN school that I heard about and take the NET. I went the next day and got a 97 (minimum 63%)! I got accepted but the school was waaay too expensive (and pretty far!) so the day I got accepted at that school I went to another nearby school and took the TABE. The reason I didn't go there first was because I heard that it would take an act of congress to get in. I got all 12.9's (minimum 12.0 the equivalent of a high school grad) so the next day I took the NET again (they require it be from their school) and got only a 93% cuz they don't allow calculators.

I went through the whole process (it is an act of congress!) and was waiting on an interview when I got called. I felt sure that since I got the highest grade possible on the TABE and a pretty good grade on the NET I would have NO PROB. with the interview and it should be the easiest part right?.....WRONG!!! I went into the interview with waaaay too much confidence and completely BOMBED it! :banghead: I wasn't prepered for any of the questions and nursing is as much about personality as it is about smarts.

Lesson learned....be humble and never underestimate! NOTHING is guaranteed. The next 3 wks were the longest of my life! But I got in. Good thing too because between both school I had spent a lot of money and it would be a shame if it had been in vain. So now...I'm waiting. I plan on bridging once I'm done.

Sorry for the long post but it was nice to be able to identify with people in the same boat.

Good Luck To All....CLASS OF 2009!!!!!!!!!:grad:

Hi, I am Tara mommy of two girls ages 3 and 4. I am currently in an 18 month lpn program. It's full-time day classes so I don't know why our program is longer! I started June 2nd to finish the rest of my pre-req's and will start level 1 in August. I am so excited to finally be going to school, i've been waiting a long time it seems!! I am supposed to graduate December 2009. Keeping my fingers crossed it all works out this time!

Specializes in Allergy and Immunology.

Hello All,

I am 25, married with no kids and currently part-time LPN student.

After 4 years of trying to get into RN school, I finally decided to try LPN, because I knew I could get in faster. So here I am, I started 1 of supposedly 3 semesters last fall 2007, but I am going part time so It will take me 4 semesters. I have bills to pay, yall know how it is. I am in the 2nd semester of LPN program. So Far it has not been as challenging as I though it will be. But I might be singing a diff toon after this semester though. I have done Pharm, AP, Foundations all the other pre reqs., now I just have Med-Sug 1 and 2, then all my clinicals 1-4. I have Med-Sug 1 and 2 plus begining clinic and clinical 1 this semester and then clinical 2,3,4 and a family nursing class. Then I will graduate in May 2009!, After that I will work and apply for RN. Good luck to everyone.:yeah:

Hi everyone ! My name is Vincent I am 35 years old, married and I start my LPN program tomarrow July 7th !

My wife is 29 and from the philippines. She works as a nurse aid and is actually going to school with me!! It will be a challenge for sure because both of us will be working and going to school in the day but I know we can do it! Maybe we can pin each other in June 2009...hehehehe. She has the advantage because she already can do basic nurse stuff but I am to the challenge.

My long term goal is to go for my RN but we will see...thats not set in stone. I really like this idea of a 2009. My wife was an English teacher in her country and also instructed English in China...but no jobs here as a teacher in Pittsburgh. I myself was laid off from the corporate world and I am looking for a new career that is more stable. I think we here on this board are making a good career choice...so many options for us. Good Luck to all !
