2009 Grads! Come 1 Come ALL!

Published

I thought it would be nice to have a 2009 Grad Thread we can share are joys, fears, stories (hippa permitting) Just to relieve the stress.

I am a 25 y.o. wife and mother of 3 girls ages 7,5 and 1. I have been in the medical field since 2001, but took all Allied health classes in high school. I am in my first of four semesters, doing the evening program, lasting 15 months.

Right now I am not really doing any core nursing classes, just A&P, nutrition and nurs 110 which is basically a 'history of nursing' class.

I was a paramedic, I have a degree in medical office management and STNA. I have taken the long route into nursing but finally feel I have found the right path. I graduate in July of 2009 and plan on entering ADN in Aug of 2009.

Come join me!!

hey gals,

im 29, married with no children. my husband is 37 and is an LPN. he graduated in 2006. ill be going to the same school he graduated from. i start school aug 26th, its a 10 month program. 10 months of living hell. watched my hubby go thru it.

so it will be 30hrs a week in school, 20+ hours a week of studying and then i still have to work 20hrs on the weekends to keep my health ins. thank god i have an easy job. i work in the laundry of LTC facility.

the best part. is when i graduate, hubby gets to pin me. they have family members who are nurses pin the graduates. i cant wait. something to keep me going when im exhausted and my house is a poop hole.

i love the idea of a thread just for us 09 graduates.

Hello! I'm Shirley and I'm 24, married and have a daughter that's turning two in a few weeks. I just started my program in February and I graduate February 09. We are just about to finish Pharm and I am sooo ready for that to be over! Clinical 2 rotations are coming in a couple weeks and I am excited!

What all types of colleges are you all going to? I'm going to a vocation/private school. It's expensive, but I didn't have to go on a waitlist. My husband is in the military and I didn't want to be on a waitlist forever only to find out we were moving ya know?

Hi Shirley!!! I am also attending a vocational school. I was at a community college for my RN but the wait list was a year so instead of waiting I decided to get my LPN. (which had no waitlist) I am so excited to start and I wish you all the best!!!:nurse:

Glad so many people have joined in! Glad you found us!

Seems like we have a good mixture of age, family lives, and backgrounds!

I have been in the program for 2 months now, I really like it! We are just doing 'core' classes right now, A&P, Nursing foundations and nutrition. I had already taken english and psychology at another school so I am not taking them right now with the rest of my class, so my load is a little less then what they are doing, so I am not feeling overwhelmed yet.

They told us that next semester was the "weeding out" semester so we will see how many people are able to stick it out. I hope that we don't loose many people, I mean they started because they wanted to be a nurse so I hope the WHOLE class is able to reach their dreams!

Anyone else hear that at one point or another that the class will start dwindling down?

We don't really have that at my school, but I think since tuition costs so much, the people who enroll are really serious about studying. It's been almost 4 months and the only person that has dropped moved out of state due to family reasons, not due to grades.

I think a lot of it is because of where I live. I live in a city and the welfare program puts about 15 people per semester through. Our class started with 60 students, we are down to 52 because of people not liking the program or financial issues, but I suspect we are going to lose a few this week because midterms are out, and some people aren't doing so hot. You have to have a 78% to pass and about 1/3 of the class is below that.

I'm in a hospital program. They agree to pay the tuition (not books and uniforms) if you agree to work for them for 2 years. Not too bad of a deal, especially since they also have an RN program with an easy bridge system. :)

Yep.. Supposedly next term (which starts this coming Monday) is when things get really tough and people start dropping like flies. I'm a bit nervous about it. The class that graduated ahead of us started with 30 and only 13 actually made it to graduation...

Right now I'm focusing on getting though my finals this week. Nutrition final is done, and I'm fairly certain I finished with an A in the class. we also had to take the CAP test for nutrition yesterday... That test was interesting, to say the least. It's supposedly like the NCLEX, and if that's true, then I totally understand when people post about not feeling like they know anything afterward. The stuff I knew I really knew but then other questions seemed like they came from outer space... lol.

I'm in a 12 month LPN program. We are on semesters, and take clinicals along with classes all along the way. I'm starting the RN program the semester immediately following my grad from LPN school. I'm a little worried about that because I want time to study for my NCLEX. I'm going to do it, though, and just do my very best and see what happens! This has been my plan of action since applying to LPN school(give it my all and see what happens), and I feel so blessed and grateful with my experience. It's challenging, but I know nursing is for me, and so school is very gratifying.

I don't have children, and not married (boyfriend, but not high maintenance!). I really admire the people who balance families and go to nursing school. I don't know how you do it, but I think so highly of you guys!

Count me in. I recieved my letter today and classes start in August. It is a 9 month program that I am soooo looking forward to. Good luck to all!!!!

I recently got accepted into a LPN program that starts in July, and I finish next June. I will still have to work while attending school (I'm not independently wealthy), so I know that it will be a hard road, but I know a few LPNs who worked and went to school, so I know it's possible. I wish everyone else who is a member of the class of 2009 the best!
