"i mean before you left the room or when you was doing your rounds you should of made sure they were already pulled up in the bed." actually we were doing rounds and hadn't even made it to that room yet. of course i would have pulled her up when i got there, but if the nurse was in the room and noticed it before i got there, shouldn't she have been the one to do it? she walked across the building to have us do it. good grief.

i love this idea. love it.

I'm just not sure where to draw the line with her, to be honest. I know that we are the nurse assistants and we are required to certain things, I just dont know exactly when to say " This is something you can do for yourself" or "I have other priorities right now." I have only worked there a week and I guess right now I dont want to make any waves, but I am going to try to be more assertive vs. being more passive agressive.

I'm really not sure if it would cause a problem.... And after having worked with her a second night, I don't really think that she is lazy. I think maybe she is either on a BIG power trip or is just having some type of delegation issues. She doesn't seem snotty or blatantly rude though, I am just starting to wonder if she is genuinely convinced that she as an LPN is above doing certain things. I mean, she asks us to do silly things too that most nurses would do themselves, such as throw things in the trash or bring her the ice cart. I think I am just going to grit my teeth and just *do it*. We do not have to work with her that often and it is a good lesson for me to learn. Now I know how it feels to be asked to do stupid things, and I certainly will not do that to people when I become a nurse.:chuckle

We had a nurse from you know where last night it was TERRIBLE. She had no CLUE what was going on and wanted us to do EVERYTHING for her. She was SO lazy it was ridiculous. A few examples: we were working our patooties off and doing bedchecks when she has the audacity to come find us and tell us that mrs. so and so needs pulled up in bed. She weighs like 80 pounds and the nurse was already in the room so why couldnt she do it? It took her more time to track us down and give us orders to do it then it would have taken her to put her at the head of the bed. Then later, (one of us was answering a ton of call lights, the other was giving showers) she had given a liquid med and wanted us to come wipe his face off b/c he had some around his mouth. That is just lazy. Last example :When I was hired, the DON told me that she wants me done and out by 7 am, no exceptions. Around 6:30 Am when we were getting people up, (several by hoyer lifts and we both have to be present), doing trash, laundry, still answering lights etc., she come to us and asks : Girls, can you do my vitals for me? OMG give me a break, have you ever heard of time management, ma'am? And I think we are working with her again tonight, *great*.

My clinicals start on the 13th week but my program is 15 mos long. I can do it in a shorter time frame like 12 or if I had no job or life I might be able to do it in 9 lol

Our first clinicals start 4 months from our start date, every month has a different number of clinical hours.

I think everyone is wondering the same thing.

The other aide actually did come in last night so they canceled the agency aide. BUT tonight I really do work with the agency aide (will be my 3rd night) so wish me luck. Our charge nurse told me the guy that they have coming in is really creepy, kind of perverted, with poor personal hygiene. She said some of the residents have complained about him and even she and the cnas have taken issue with him to the DON. She told me if I need help, not to even ask him, and she would help me with any lifting or repositioning. She also is going to split the halls, because he is known for not doing all his work. And at least that way, my job wont be on the line if something doesn't get done that he said was done.

I started my job at a LTC facility last night (midnight shift) and everything went great. She was pretty thorough in teaching me (the aid) and and I went home feeling pretty good about it. Well I am due to go back in tonight and it is just supposed to be me and another cna working the floor, who is an agency nurse. I am really nervous because I do not really know the residents yet. I have never given a bath by myself yet (using the machines) and am still practicing on things like rolling the bed liners to change them etc., I do think this will give me a lot of really great experience, But I also want to be safe. They are supposed to split up the facilty, she does half and I do half. But I do not want to do 2 person lifts by myself. I have a long career ahead of me and do not want to ruin it by ruining my back. Not to mention the fact that I could seriously injure someone if I dropped them, that would be horrible! So, I am wondering if it would be bad of me to ask the agency nurse for help with my lifting and baths. I will offer to help her with any of hers too of course, but is it unprofessional for me to ask that if the floor is supposed to be split? Thanks

That's terrible, I've never even heard of that! But in all fairness, that shouldn't affect the way cna's treat lpn or rn students or vice versa.

I wanted to work as a CNA while going to LPN school and as an LPN while going to RN school for several reasons one being that when I have to delegate tasks, I want to know what that task really is, not what it is on paper, and I want to be able to do certain things and help out if needed. I dont want to shun the doing basic things that pt's or res's need every day but at the same time, I am making a lot of sacrifices and so is my fam for me to go to school and pursue these programs. I do want to move on from being a cna. The bias definetely comes from both sides. I am sure I will get an offer to work there as an LPN after I graduate and start RN school. I just want to prove myself a great CNA now, and hopefully when the time comes that I have to delegate tasks etc., they will know I am not bossing them around or think that I am better than they are, but just doing my job.
