  1. Our biggest loss was in the mental health rotation..we lost 4. Med-surg is AWESOME. I have seen alot and done alot at the hospital..last week I caught a wrong consent, took care of pre-op hip and then got to watch her surgery..it was intense and man I have SO much respect for the surgical nurses! When I continue my education that is my ultimate goal. The week before I hada post-op appendectomy patient and from am assessment to noon assessment his bowel sounds changed, abdominal girth was bigger, and his comfort level was dropping fast...contacted my primary and she got orders from the PCP to get a flatplate ..and low and behold he had perilitic ilius!! I am 2 points away from an "A" in lecture and we have 2 more tests to go before a small break and heading into summer to finish. My graduation is July 23!! Thanks for letting me share:clpty:
  2. I live in central Illinois and check local hospital job postings quite often and inquired as to why there are not positions posted for LPN and was told by personal that you must be assertive and ask for them! I hold my head high and cannot wait until July 23 and get my LPN pin!
  3. If you don't know how in the h*ll are we suppose to know.....
  4. regular equipment does me just fine...save when and where you can!
  5. i just finished my psyc rotation and LOVED the experience! Graduation is set for july 23rd.......YAHOO!!!!
  6. stressful and yes i mean stressful on every part of your life! lots of reading...i have 1-2 tests weekly, clinicals, and sooo much more. if it is really something you waNT YOU CAN DO IT. my program only accepts 80 at a time and since august we have lost 10 r/t bad grades, poor performance, not completing tasks on time, and poor attendance. good luck and keep your head high!
  7. i think it is always rough to go through unless you have the luxury of doing nothing else but dedicating yourself and ALL your time to school...I am a single mother of 3..one of which is bi-polar and just turned 13..one 5 ...and one 6 months. I cry everyday and look for ways to get through each and every day. a friend told me short term sacrifice for long term pay off..that is what I am holding on to!
  8. thanks, I am nervous....my son, who just turned 13 this week, is Bi-polar and we have delt with the inpatient hospitalizations several times. I am nervous to be on the other end...as a helper. I just want to be successful in getting a good response from the patients...i am so not judgemental of these people....they just need a bit more support and understanding and help to understand themselves and guidance. So, even though i have had many years of experience dealing with mental illness firsthand, I am at a loss here......
  9. Thank You Soooooooo much for your ideas!
  10. so sorry about the all caps i didn't even think about it....my caps lock must have been on and I just started typing! Once again, I really am sorry for that
  11. Wow...that would be tough ....A&P takes alot of studying and there is NO way that i could have made it through both at the same time! Good luck with whatever you decide to do
  12. Hello all, I am seeking any and all ideas to help me. I am doing my psyc clinical next week at a community hospital. They have an inpatient unit that also takes partial hospitalization patients as well as outpatients. My duty is to come up with a plan to do a group activity for 45 min to 1 hour in length. most of the patients that I will be dealing with are there for personality disorders and ages range from 12-20 on one unit and then 21- older adult on the other. That is the catch I won't know what group i will have until that day. The project is to be something suited for all ages and easily "tweaked" to be flexible .......see my deliema? I am really having a brain block due to the fact that I really need this to go well.....HUGE part of my grade for this rotation. Thanks in advance to anyone who has any fun, creative, and practical ideas! I have tried thinking about this since we were informed of it on Friday and this is how I feel!
  13. Absolutely nothing unless they were hitting it before walking onto the floor
  14. IT IS A UNIT IN A COMMUNITY HOSPITAL THAT DEALS WITH Mostly personality disorders....the rest of my class is scared sh**less....i'm not scared, just wanna have a good response...
  15. O.K.---NEED ANY AND ALL IDEAS HERE. I AM LOOKING FOR HELP IN PLANNING A GROUP PROJECT THAT I MUST LEAD ON THE PSYC UNIT. I AM NERVOUS THAT I WILL FLOP!! IT NEEDS TO BE FOR ADOLESCENTS AGE 12-20 OR OLDER ADULTS, THAT IS THE THING... I WON'T KNOW UNTIL THAT DAY WHICH GROUP I GET...SERIOUSLY....ALL HELP WILL BE SOOOOOOO MUCH APPRECIATED:banghead:
