Just had a girl with 102 temp crying because she wanted to stay in school. She has midterm review today and a basketball game tomorrow.
She was in earlier, afebrile, now with shaking chills. I'm suspecting flu.
A nice, sweet involved kid who never comes in. Parents are a pleasure.
Put your GOOD stories and Good kids right here.
I had mentioned a few months ago about a terminal K student of mine who was diagnosed with brain cancer over the summer.
She came back this week. Modified day, tons of support, IEP in place but she is here and she is SO happy. She comes to see me every day after lunch to wait for her bus attendant and the smile on her face when we talk about her day is truly one of the only things that got me through a very hectic, stressful week.
I had a kid with an ankle injury, swollen and could hardly walk. I sent him home and the poor thing cried and cried. He didn't want to mess up his perfect attendance. He told me he would find a rollie chair for the rest of the day. Broke my heart.
I came to visit the school I was at last year and one of my previous FF's came in because he lost his tooth.
FF: "Mrs. Sully!!! I don't come up nearly as much as last year, I've only been up like 10 times this whole year!"
Me: "That's awesome, bud. Keep it up!" (This kid used to come in three times a day)
He was so excited to tell me that.
I have said it before, and I'll say it again... I wish that all of the Nursing Specialties could be as cordial, supportive, and generally awesome as the School Nurses forum. Makes me wish I was a part of the gang. I've never been a school nurse, though in PDN I have worked with a few, yet I regularly check for new threads on this forum. Thanks to all of you. Wish all nurses could enjoy the camaraderie seen here.

Hope you are on the mend and feeling better!!
Years ago I had a student who was dx'd in his senior year with cancer. He was a student and very close family friend. After he died (he had already graduated) another student came in for a week or so to have lunch with me 'cause she knew I was hurting, while holding up every one else!
She is an awesome young lady!

Our graduations are very special. Each graduate, some of which I have now known for six years, gives a speech, complete with classmate's thoughts and a video presentation. Staff is always undone.
