Ok I am in NW ohio. I am 35 and I have been an LPN for 5yrs now, all in LTC. First in geriatrics and now with MRDD. I have been married to the perfect man for 20 yrs in Jan. We have 2 boys the oldest is 19 and lives with his girlfriend and my grandson who is now 2and1/2 months old. My youngest is 16 and lives here at home he is physically and mentally handicapped but an angel none the less. Now for a recipe..........Simple pasta alfredo: Soften together 2TBS of butter with 1pkg cream cheese add 1/2c of parmesan cheese and enough milk to make it the consistency you prefer toss with cooked pasta. This and a simple salad and my family is happy. Who is next???
Oh, it's just me again!! I reread my post and noticed that to some, I may seem despaired, despondant, what have you. I'm not---as I said, I miss the profession a great deal, but have moved on and accepted my consequences. I enjoy reading these boards to "stroll down memory lane" as well as stay educated to health matters. Life is what we make of it. I made a pretty good nurse and I'm sure I'll be pretty good at my next profession whatever it may be!! Thanks again, you all seem like a interesting group!
Hi,
I'm an LPN, and have been for 29 years!
I live in Southwestern Ohio. I work nights in LTC facility for 1-1/2 years on a mild Alzheimer's and Dementia unit, and don't like it! So I'm looking. I use to work for a doctor for 9-1/2 years but he closed up his practice.
I have 2 sons, one is 25 (he's married and their not expecting yet-need to get busy and give me some grandkids!) and the other one is 21, who still lives at home (he works nights at a local factory, so we sleep the days away).
I'm married and have been for 26 years!
Favorite recipe - here lately would be taco ring from pampered chef. Fix it on a large stone with 2 packages of crescent rolls. Lay the crescent rolls around the stone (should look like a big sun with rays.
Brown 2 lbs. ground chuck, then drain. Add package of dry taco seasoning and 2 c shredded cheese.
Spoon big balls out and lay in the middle of each crescent roll, then roll pointed end of crescent roll up over the meat to the other side of crescent roll. Do that all the way around the stone.
Bake at 375 degrees for 20-25 minutes, until lightly brown.
Have lettuce, sour cream, salsa, onions, tomatoes on the side.
This has been wonderful seeing and meeting Buckeye Nurses...but I have a question. This law that congress just shelved about overtime. Would that have changed our job overtime? I know how touchy the subject of overtime is..but illness, disease and injuries don't happen 'on time' and 'within our shift'. Does anyone know?
Hello all. I live in Liberty twp. Ohio, but was born and raised in Columbus. I graduated from Ohio State in 1973 and have been a school nurse for 21 years of the time since. I have 2 kids -24 and 22. My husband of 30 years is a veterinarian. I love this forum and love meeting new people!
Hello all. I am your neighbor and I love this board. I am in the process of obtaining my license in Ohio. Are there jobs for an RN, over 55 but can still cut the mustard. I really need a change. I have done mostly Med/Surg, have tele, psych, peds, ortho and post op experience. Need an honest answer. Is age the most important factor there or does experience count? Any replies would be great. Have a great day all.
So nice to meet all of you! What a great thread idea- it's nice to get to know a little about everyone.
I'm 29, married with two wonderful kids-a boy 12 and a girl 4. I've been an LPN for one year now (still in my infancy, I guess), but I've worked in LTC for eight years, with another five in Rehab. I joined this board a year ago, fresh out of school-and have loved every second of it! I've enjoyed many threads from all of you, especially the "old-timers" (:)) like renerin, noney and angelbear. I've learned so much from all of you!
Speaking of old-timers: renerin-did you get a response to the question about heather? I was reading some old posts and ran across a few she wrote (always enjoyable...). Made me wonder how she's doing.

barefootlady..........if you can kiss a lot of butt, keep your voice to yourself, serve a hot cup of coffee, don't mind being pushed around by visitors and patients, and eaten up by your coworkers and management for having a desire to improve things on the unit you will be assigned to..........you can cut the mustard honey, and you'll have all you need to survive in the world of nursing as it is today.
Are you SURRRRRRRRRE you want to return to nursing?

Hi. I'm not sure if I'm on the right forum, but I'll introduce myself anyway. I've been a nurse for many years--always hospital nursing, usually something chaotic and ridiculously spontaneous (ER, ICU, etc) I've been an RN since I was 20, but lost my license 2 years ago for drug theft..something I never thought "I would do. ". Never drank, never did drugs, but the ease and comfort of leftover meds got the best of me. Anyhow, I've lost everything and am very disillusioned with our state board of nursing. Also saddened by the lack of education regarding the laws we receive from our nursing schools. I'm moving on, but miss the profession, and feel like a discarded nurse. I hope none of you ever get in to this predicament and if you do, get the right advice to protect your livelyhood and your career. I didn't. And like all of you, I too had children--high school athletes, college student and middle school "gifted". Married to a great man and STILL fell in to the trap. It can happen to anyone. Thanks for letting me share my story with my fellow Buckeye nurses!
