1. A light and happy thread to go with my lunch. What's your favorite nursing job been? You don't need to reveal where, just what.

My favorite was urgent care, although I was not an RN yet. Other than that, big hospital tele floor.

Providing in-home care for a vent-dependent toddler with the nicest family ever. Night shift, and from day one they trusted me to care for their child. Mom and I just 'understood' each other from the get go.

Fast forward: he is off the vent, decannulated and rides the bus to school every morning. Just like all the other kids! And mom has a job providing support and resources to NICU families.

Out patient surgery. You keep most of your nursing skills. They are closed nights, weekends, and holidays.

I love private duty peds. I enjoy the work, and I enjoy the kids & most of the families. I don't have to multitask and worry that I've missed something, and I don't have to run the halls all day.

Yeah, I do have to chase the kids sometimes. The thing is, kids do well until they don't; there's not a lot of time once they start to get in trouble. But - a lot of the time - kids get to do normal kid stuff, although sometimes it's at their own, slower level.

Oh, you mean your favorite nursing job. I still have to say the favorite job involved working selling concessions at a movie theater. The pay was low, but we ate popcorn on our breaks and watched bits of movies when things were slow. Sometimes during my first year as a nurse, when I was struggling under a heavy load of responsibility, I would think of that old job.

I was on student exchange in neurosurgery ICU in one of Arabic countries. Wonderful experience. I work now in PACU and I am very happy with it as well

I personally love working Psych. I have gone back and forth between different types of acute care as well as LDRP, and even worked as a consultant for a large corporation who served the intellectually disabled and I keep coming back to psych. The psych community is severely underserved and for the most part not dangerous. Plus you just can't make up what I experience on the unit.

Vascular access and endoscopy. I love vascular access because I have the opportunity to spend quality teaching time with the patient and ultimately provide a service that is valuable. I also enjoy teachable moments with my colleagues in the areas of assessing the patient and working collaboratively to find solutions for our vascular access issues. I'm not even close to half way through my nursing career so I hope one day something else comes up that I like even more.

Hospice - hands down. Never felt like more of a "real" nurse...have never had more heartfelt appreciation and feedback....have never felt like I made more of a difference EVERY SINGLE DAY than that job. But then the on call and hours tried to kill me...tried to kill my marriage, etc and I had to give it up for awhile. Someday I'm going back to it.
