Your FAVORITE job

A light and happy thread to go with my lunch. :D What's your favorite nursing job been? You don't need to reveal where, just what.

My favorite was urgent care, although I was not an RN yet. Other than that, big hospital tele floor.

My current job as a psych nurse. Love the fact that my whole assessment is talking to my patients! I have previously worked Med Surg and PCU. Loved them for the skills they gave me, but I felt I didn't get much time to talk with my patients.

CCU -- lots of teamwork and a great team. The patients were interesting -- we got EPS patients, and we were on the cutting edge of research on PTCAs and implantable defibrillators. The medical staff were great to work with, and my co-workers were universally interesting, nice people. So were the patients. Of course that was thirty years ago in a mostly rural setting, but I sure enjoyed it for the five years I was there!

My other favorite was doing travel counseling. Meeting people who traveled all over the world and getting them vaccinated and prepared for their journey.

Not a nurse quite yet, but I work as a PCT on a Peds Cardiology unit and I LOVE it! I'm hoping this is where I can stay after nursing school!

I was happiest in the part time research assistant job I had in grad school. But it had to be temporary as it paid very little and included no benefits. Unfortunately, I had to graduate and get a "real job."

Not exactly a job -- haven't fell in love with any of my two jobs yet. But I did shadow in the cardiac cath - and fell in love. Thought I was going to pursue it, until I found my path of crna :) haha but definitely my second option would be to find a cardiac cath job

I love my job in the well baby nursery. I know a lot of places don't have these anymore, so I'm lucky to have a job in one.

Newborn hearing screener. I loved working with the babies and educating parents. Easy Peazy! Also worked in LDRP in a small hospital x 16 years. Mostly great until there was a change in management.

Cardiac rehab was actually one of my clinical sites in school. Basically it's like working at a gym, but where you're monitoring telemetry for everyone who is working out; also lots of assessments and monitoring vitals trends. Also got to educate constantly both one and one and in group sessions about healthy behaviors, cardiac physiology and medications. Patients ultimately choose cardiac rehab, so the ones that participate are motivated to change. The biggest surprise was also the psych component as a majority of the patients had co-morbid depression either prior to or related to their cardiac event, so talking to patients is a big part of it too. The reinforcement and behavioral aspects of promoting behavior change were also front and center, and that's one of my favorite areas of psych to work in. Would love to go back to that gig someday, 12 hour shifts and no weekends or holidays. Lots of paperwork though.
