Prior to becoming a nurse i was a fireman paramedic. I went from working with all men to working with all women. Wow what a difference!!!

Just curious if you could chose would you rather work with all men or all women?

I would rather work with competent nurses that do not differentiate between genders based on some bad experiences or preconceptions of roles and behaviors.

Competency, reliability and professionalism is necessary to do the job....a specific gender is not....I know of no nurses that drop the trousers of other nurses to assess whether they want to work with them.

I've worked with both and prefer what caroladybelle said. :D

One of the worst gossips I've ever worked with was a man.

I have had better luck with men as coworkers. When I worked in the hospital pharmacy prior to becoming a nurse, most pharmacists were male and I never dealt with alot of BS and that is why I worked there for 14 years. When I became a nurse and my coworkers became primarily females, the gossip always hits the fan. I don't know if its the female thing or the female/nurse combo that is the culprite of gossip. I'm a female so don't take this wrong. I love to hear and get into gossip as much as the next but sometimes when it's negative toxic gossip, it's time to shut your mouth. JMO

and the right way to take this would be?

i like working with competent, straightforward and hard working individuals whether they be male or female. some of the worst gossips i know are male.

My vote = Men!

I have worked for 30 years and have never once been treated badly by a man. They don't tend to gossip, back-stab, bicker, give you the silent treatment, or set you up for "the kill." They simply don't play games!

I'm just answering based on life experience. Many women think they are in competition with each other.

HOWEVER, I have worked with some amazing women, including my current boss. She's the best!:bowingpur

I second what caroladybelle wrote.

I second what caroladybelle wrote.

I third it. It isn't a gender issue. It is an issue of maturity and respect for others.

I agree with caroladybelle, too. I could care less about gender. I need coworkers who are competent, mature, respectful, and also have a sense of humor.

That said I do appreciate a guys view point on some situations. It is very helpful in dealing with some of my male patients. And honestly, I also have to ask other lady's opinions sometimes too, though.

It just doesn't really matter to me.

We are glad to have you aboard, Gringoloco. :)
