what do you say to a pt who says "i sign your paycheck " ? we had a nasty pt who kept saying that to me over and over . what do you say back to them ? i didn't have any good come backs at the time !! thank you all in adavnce and happy turkey day !!

Really? How about a raise?

I will occasionally reply (in a totally jesting voice so that it is very apparent I am joking...)

"well, can I get a raise?"

And then move on very quickly to whatever else I was going to say...or just make something up like, "would you like your TV on/off?"

Just enough to acknowledge the statement, not enough to give it any power. :wink2:

I am so happy to hear that you realize you have to pay for the hard work I do for you.

Never would say this but seeing as how a vast majority of my pts are either uninsured or beneficiaries of taxpayer generosity, it's doubtful they sign my paycheck. Much more likely that I'm paying for the care they're getting.:rolleyes:

I have noticed those who say that are often either on Welfare, and completely ungrateful for the charity they are getting, or they are uninsured and likely will never pay a dime.

Oops, looks like I should have looked up before I posted.

GENERALLY, i find the nasty patients to be the unemployed, people on welfare, the ghetto and so on. GENERALLY, people with careers come in with a better and understanding attitude. GENERALLY. there are exceptions to everything.

You do? Do you actually sign it personally or use a rubber ink stamp?

I had a patient say that to me and I said "I never saw your name on my paycheck before and probably never will" then left the room. He fumed about it and called the supervisor. Supervisor sided with me as patient had been beligerent all night about getting extra doses of pain meds and benadryl for which the doctor finally said no, i'm not ordering anything else. So the patient took it out on me and said "You're working for me and suppose to do what I say." I said I don't take orders from you, I take orders from the doctor. The doctor refused to order anymore pain meds or benadryl, take it up with him.
