i sign your paycheck !!

Published

what do you say to a pt who says "i sign your paycheck " ? we had a nasty pt who kept saying that to me over and over . what do you say back to them ? i didn't have any good come backs at the time !! thank you all in adavnce and happy turkey day !!

The vast majority of my pts are Medicare/Medicaide.

When I had a really nasty pt who kept saying "I pay your wages."

I told him "No, your care is paid for by taxes. Since I am working and paying taxes, I'm not only taking care of you, I'm paying for it, too!"

Totally inappropriate, I know. But I had had enough of this jerk and it just popped out. He did shut up, though.

Never would say this but seeing as how a vast majority of my pts are either uninsured or beneficiaries of taxpayer generosity, it's doubtful they sign my paycheck. Much more likely that I'm paying for the care they're getting.:rolleyes:

Those types of comments are made by the uninsured pt. They think that it gives them power.

OH REALLY? I've always wondered can you tell me how much our CEO is making?

My immediate comeback would be the most genuine one I have: I'd just laugh out loud, then bring it to a controlled chuckle, smile, and finish what I was doing!

Laughter does tend to stomp on the bravado a bit.

after a long shift and a string-of-abuses from pt.

"obviously you've mistaken me for someone who gives a damn".

stated w/steady eye contact and straight face.

don't even care if i'm reported.

it still shuts them up.

 the post of the day!!!

that's just awesome!

About 95% of my patients are medicare. However I got one person who kept telling me every time I went in the room that they paid $6,000 per month to be there for rehab and I'd better be doing this that and the other for them. Some of the requests were sending faxes and looking up phone numbers.

Finally I told them with my patient load, hourly rate and amount of hours I was there, I was probably costing them about $100 per month of that and they'd better see where the other $5,900 was going. Somehow I bet that individual didn't tell the physical therapist, doctor or drug company that they were paying their wages and they'd better do exactly what he wanted.

In my short career I have had it happen once. I did not really know how to handle it...

I simply looked her in the eye, rolled them, and made a dismissive sigh while doing what I was there for. Did not hear it again.

i think unbridled laughter was the best response!
