I am student but we had this issue at work too.

"Huh? I have direct deposit."

"I thought my paycheck said somebody last name Smith?"

"Wait. Oh! I forgot to pick up my check! I will look when I get it though. Heck! Wait a sec while I go get it. Hey, do you know where I can find a check cashers? I owe Vinny some money."

"Who signs yours?" (This refers to the largeness of an institution where every has a boss.)

Yep, but I'm the one with access to all the sharp objects, and good drugs!

You sign my paycheck? Well, with the crappy pay you're giving me, you're lucky you're even getting care this good!

"Really? Your name is *insert corporate healthcare entity name with all the INC, PC, Not-For-Profit, Division Of, etc. taglines*? Must've been hard learning to spell that in First Grade."

And, tell them that you'll throw darts at them blindfolded after you inject yourself with Demerol.

Good one!!

Even better!

Another thing I hate is when we have to entertain the relatives of the powers that be, the community advisory board, the name droppers who will say "I am the shoe-shine person to your CEO, so, you have to take care of me first...".:angryfire

I can't say that anyone has ever thrown the paycheck jab at me, at least I can't remember. I have had them give me a song and dance about how they could control what I did and how the other nurse(s) did or did not do this or that and I had better play along, blah, blah, blah. I have told them point blank that I am not the other nurse(s) and I do my job the way it is supposed to be done and blah, blah, blah. I hate it when they so blatantly play the manipulation game. Sooner or later, I usually end up not working with manipulative patients and families. Better for my nerves and blood pressure. There are too many appreciative people out there who do not resort to such antics to get what they want. A pleasure to work for and to be around.
