Best/Worst Jobs Before Nursing?

Nurses General Nursing

What were the best and worst jobs you ever had before becoming a nurse?

My best was as a vocalist for a band. In fact, if you watch the movie "My Life" w/ Michael Keaton and Nicole Kidman, I was the singer in the wedding band at the reception scene. Red sequined dress shaking a tambourine. That was fun!

Worst job was my first job ever, working at Dunkin' Donuts. I still have trouble eating those!

Specializes in Peds, Pre and post op.

Worst Job: McDonalds Drive thru cashier person while I ws in highschool, it was fun when I got to work with my friends though, but it was still a crappy job, best part of it was realizing that McDonalds employees really do mess with food when customers are nasty for no reason (bad I know, but it happens).

Best: Umm, I did a few interships, one for behavioral health working with seniors, and another at a Veterinarians office, those were fun but I didnt get paid. Right now I work on & off for a Sunless tanning Company...I do trade shows and I'm the sales girl, I assault people with self tanner, it can be fun, but your on your feet all day ...in heels.....sheesh...thats not fun..but it gets me through RN school :)

One of the worst jobs was working as a DJ at a local radio station in the 1970's.... lousy hours and worse pay. A close second was doing radio and TV news (another station) in the 1970's. Both jobs had their fun moments, but one could hardly survive on them.

The best was working as a Field Engineer for a large company specializing in imaging systems. Lots of travel (their vehicle) and away a lot, but the money was pretty good. The experience was extremely valuable.

So far, Nursing is the overall best career in which I have been involved. :D

Best job: My first job when I was 16 as a concession stand worker at a movie theater. There was only one theater there (historic theater) and while the movie was running we played cards, goofed off, did homework, played tricks on each other, etc.

Worst job: One summer while living in Vermont during college I worked odd jobs. The worst was as a flagger on the highway for a construction crew. I'd stand there all day holding the 'slow' sign. Guys driving by would call out their windows at me as they were driving by. Because it was a state job they had to have at least one female on the job. It was 45 mins from where I was living, and they kept bringing my start time up, until I finally had to be there at 3 am one day. That was the day I quit.

Good Job: Lab Assistant for Computer lab.... get to play on the computer all the time while at work. But you could not survive on the pay from it.

Bad Job: Fast food resturant lol.

Steph, my hubby and I got married on the Queen Mary in their little Wedding Chapel and had our reception afterwards at the Sir Winston bout 14 years ago. Our relatives and friends came and it was a beautiful little wedding. I have the best pictures of our wedding on that charming ship and look forward to going back to re-visit it in the near future.

My favorite job was working for about a year at a bridal shop and assisting the wedding consultant do planning, and reservations for her bridal clients. Once while going to college, I got a 2nd job working evenings as an appointment setter for a Solar Therm Company in which I hated cold calling and the company was new and turned out to be a scam of some sorts because none of us got paid for the 10 weeks we worked there.

When you have worked jobs you really dislike, and really want to do better, it becomes a pleasure and priviledge to be able to go back to school to get trained in something that you like a lot and a profession that you will make a difference in the world, and in your own life, ya know? :kiss
