Hi, anyone want to brag a bit? After all, I think we deserve it.
I thought it would be fun to share some of our victories and things we think we should be patted on the back for.
Here's mine....I passed my first skills test this week and got a 100 on our first quiz in Fundamentals which I am soooo proud of because, as everyone knows, nursing tests are different than any other tests, you have to learn to think differently. You have to learn to think like a nurse, and WOOHOO, I DID IT!
I'll join in... (Lord knows I need the good days!)
My moment was yesterday after Fundamentals class... I got back my Clinical paperwork (from our first 2 days of clinicals) and received glowing compliments from my instructor about my first attempt at a nursing diagnosis. Apparently, I hit it right on the mark because she said she was surprised I was able to do it that well this early. (Thank you ALLNURSES.COM!!! I actually got a lot of perspective right here on the site from old threads!)
(Of course, I have now set the bar pretty high for myself for the rest of the semester... lol... oops!)
My turn! LOL
Well, I had my first foundations exam last Thursday and got a 92! I was really excited about that. I also had a Health Assessment quiz and a Concepts quiz and got a 90 on both...
And today I went to practice in the skills lab and I was helping another student understand how to do a procedure. The lab instructor overheard and asked if I was a PCA, I told her "no" and she replied "oh, well you're really smart". That actually made my day. Of course Im not the brightest in the world, but its good to have people speak positive things over you, so for that I was thankful!
My turn, my turn. I am in Med-Surg II and we just had our first test...fluids/electrolytes and acid/base balance. It was insanely hard, and the class average was 78.54...but I got an 84. I know, that's not all that good under normal circumstances but given the overall class score I think I didn't do too shabby. I heard that last semester the average was 68, so I'd say that our whole class did pretty well given the level of difficulty of the material.

From someone who took Pathophysiology over the summer, I just want to say Congrats on your score! Im not even in Med-Surg yet but since I already took Pathophys I know how hard F&E and Acid Base balances can be, and Im sure its much harder in Med Surg.
So I just wanted to congratulate you cause when I learned it, I swear it made my head spin. LOL
I did an interview recently as a new grad for an OB position at a major hospital that I have ALWAYS wanted to work. Its a long interview process. So far I was told that I did extremely well on the first part. During the phone interview the nurse recruiter mentioned that I was one of the best interviewers she has had in a while. I made a really great impression on the nurse manager on the floor for the interview in person. I have another interview this time with staff nurses on the floor(supposedly informal we will see). I am happy I made it this far as a new grad. Hopefully I get the job. Fingers crossed!!!

Thank you very much! It's tough stuff, no doubt...the hardest part was trying to recall all of the symptoms. Understanding how each electrolyte effects the body helped the most with that part.
I love this thread. Sometimes we all get beated down so much that it's very refreshing to see people's accomplishments, big and small. :)
Since I don't ever acknowledge my accomplishments to my friends or family...let me just take a minute to say something here :)
I have 8 months left of my BSN program which I worked very hard to get into, but worked even harder to STAY in. I've been on the dean's list almost every semester, landed A's and high B's in every nursing class, 99th percentile on almost all of my ATI's, was picked for a fantastic (and very competitive) nursing internship, and am heavily involved on campus.
So there...I've finally tooted my horn after years of busting my orifice in silence....and I'm graduating in May. It doesn't get much better than that!!

My amazing this this week was that the first full day on the floor ever, we had someone pass away who was really sick. It was actually a very humbeling and amazing experience in itself. the family was relieved that the family memeber wasnt hurting anymore and passed away in his sleep. And my nurse and i got to prepare the body for the morge.... the first day i think i did pretty good at that one. No one else wanted to even come in and help or to see it. I know being a nurse it wont be the last dead person i see.. but it was wierd that my firsst day on the floor it was my first lol....
