What general discussion topic on allnurses do you get the most annoyed at?
For example: My pet-peeve is the "I hate working the floor. What cushy nursing jobs are there that do not require any real work?"
How would you like to respond to these topics?
For example: I would like to respond "Quit being lazy, put your time in, and develop into a stronger nurse before venturing out."
Without being specific enough to identify anyone, please contribute with your thoughts about topics that annoy you the most.
Please do not insult, demean, or disparage anyone. After all- at allnurses we are allfriends.
Wait! I forgot my FAVORITE:I am on my fourth major in college, my GPA sucks, nursing sounds like it might be worth a whirl - NO NEGATIVE POSTS PLEASE!
^^ That ^^ is my favorite - "I want opinions but only the kind I specify!"
And I LOVE the posters that jump on you for "being negative" any time your advice or opinion isn't the one they're looking for. And then they play the "Bully" card or start screeching "Nurses eat their young!"
Posts that denigrate older nurses.Any post that turns constructive feedback into "bullying."
You've only been here for a mere five years, so I'm sure you just don't understand. Older nurses are fair game for denigration because old people are worthless. And besides, they haven't mastered the internet yet, so they'll never know you're denigrating them. I'm young and beautiful, and I have no use for old people. Even those crochety old bats who are supposed to be orientating me. Don't they know they should just sign off on my skills check list and stay the he-l-l out of my way the rest of the time?
And if anyone gives me ANY negative feedback, that's bullying. I'm so special I don't require nor will I accept negative feedback.
Caution/disclaimer, the below is WAY over-dramatizing for comedy.....
"I need some experienced nurse here to please do my homework, research, and interviews for school for me.......because it's so HAAAARD and UNFAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIR that the professor makes us do this ourselves---
so some nurse here, and no, I am not asking for the answers, but can you give them to me ANYYYHOOOOW? cause, well, I can't do it myself!"
"oh and while we are at it, I HATE MY PROFESSOR FOR MAKING ME ADHERE TO A DRESS CODE in clinicals! it's just so unfaaaaaaaaaaaaaaair."
The funny thing is, if the moderators/owners/PTB of AN set up some stricter entrance rules, some kind of introductory posting criteria (common for many boards, not crazy/unheard of), or ANY kind of system that somehow prevented the deluge of these annoying posts, it wouldn't be so pervasive. And I know to simply skip past them, yes that is an option I exercise often. But why not take some kind of action to change it?Could it be because it's nurses running this site and it takes 302,827 meetings and 827 hours of discussion to change ANYTHING, EVER? :) Hahahaha
I wouldn't want to totally eliminate "those threads." I find them very entertaining!

Longer than that. I was on, ahem, "hiatus," and changed my screen name. I think I originally joined in or around 2001.

Lots of things irritate me but a couple in particular during this winter weather season, equally, are the posts complaining about getting in trouble for not being able to come to work because of the weather, and the replies to those posts where people begin bragging about how they have went x many years without ever calling off, walked x many miles in x many feet of snow to get to work.... I will make reasonable efforts to make it to work. What I will not do is risk my life for a job (because that's what it is - A JOB). I can't shack up at my work days or weeks in advance of devastating weather. Those who can, bravo. However, if I can't get there, and my work won't provide a means for me to get there, I simply do not worry about it. I don't complain about it if they reprimand me, either. It just isn't worth it. It also doesn't make me less of a person just because someone else digs their way there and I chose not to. Sorry not sorry.
