What general discussion topic on allnurses do you get the most annoyed at?

For example: My pet-peeve is the "I hate working the floor. What cushy nursing jobs are there that do not require any real work?"

How would you like to respond to these topics?

For example: I would like to respond "Quit being lazy, put your time in, and develop into a stronger nurse before venturing out."

Without being specific enough to identify anyone, please contribute with your thoughts about topics that annoy you the most.

Please do not insult, demean, or disparage anyone. After all- at allnurses we are allfriends.

THEM: "I passed NCLEX!! This is how I passed!"

ME: "Gasp! The magic formula! Now EVERYONE will pass!!"

I'm laughing so hard at this!

Personally the ones R/T personal appearance are my favorite repeaters. Visible tattoos and multiple piercings, yes please!

No, you didn't violate HIPAA because housekeeping asked for a band-aid.

"Is nursing the field for me? I like bunnies and I changed my cousins diaper once. I just think this would be the best job ever. Is it like, hard? I don't have to clean throw-up, do I? Do you think I should pick this field? "

Yes, you should pick a different field. You clearly have two brain cells left, and they don't get along.

LOL! How witty!

I am be good nurse but no understand what for to why I must english...please to help!

Specializes in NICU, PICU, PACU.

I don't understand why I have to work weekends, holidays, off shifts, Mondays and Fridays....it just interferes with my social life, my husband is upset over all the above, my family is upset, Yada Yada Yada.

Did you not know nursing is a 24/7 job when you were in school? Your family will live, you will live. I really don't want to hear about it!

Chronically-late coworkers: "I am not present-oriented, it does not work well with my culture, I can't tell time, I had to stop at Starbucks for a triple mochaccino, my 20 year old car won't start, my babysitter is late (for the 15th time this month)----- and therefore it's just not my fault I can't be on time".

ME: " Then, get a watch, cell phone planner ap, reliable transportation, treatment for your issues---- or something---- and change it".

Absolutely positively  :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :

> Any poster (especially nurses!) who does his or her "research" on Natural News and other science-denying sites and anti-vaccine posts in particular.

(As much as they irritate me I seem utterly incapable of resisting the lure of these threads ).

Slightly less :banghead: but still has a significant annoyance factor:

> Most posts NCLEX related. Does the Pearson Vue trick work? The computer stopped after 137 questions, what does this mean?

(At least I have the good sense to stay out of these posts and keep my negativity to myself :lol2: )

> Do my homework for me.

Moderately annoying:

> The sporadic bombardment (often by a slew of first-time posters who all somehow.. :whistling: manage to congregate in one thread) with tales of female nurses purported deviant fascination with their male patient's genitalia. Seriously

Meh.. (Topics that frequently seem to generate a lot of emotion but for some reason don't annoy me):

> Posts about bullying.

> I don't enjoy the poop-aspect of nursing duties.

(Possibly because I feel the same way. Don't get me wrong, a patient's dignity and skin integrity matters to me and I've never avoided/neglected my duty towards a patient but I have deliberately chosen a specialty that has minimal risk of poo-exposure).

"I have been out of school for two/four/six months and work in Med-surg/oncology/stepdown/rehab/etc and I hate being a nurse. I only wanted to work with babies or children and this is not what I thought it would be. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. It sucks. I should go back to school. Or quit. Or go back to school. Or quit. What would you do? Tell me to quit."

I would stick it out a while longer and give it a chance to get better.

"You don't seem to understand and I think you are mean. I am used to being treated a lot better than this. This job sucks. I only want to work with babies or children. This isn't what I went to school for and I am young and you are obviously eating me. I am not the same as other new graduate nurses. I am special." *flounce*

-Or-

I just had a baby and it was amazing. I love love love me some babies and love love love me some labor and delivery. I want to be a midwife/L&D nurse/baby nurse but I ONLY want to be one of those things. How do I go to school and become a nurse and guarantee I will only work one of those specialties?

-or (especially given my two kids)-

Those kids with cancer on TV are so cute with their little bald heads! They are so brave and strong and amazing! I want to "volunteer" in the pediatric cancer ward playing with the little bald headed kids over the summer so that I can get some exposure before I go off to school to maybe become a pediatric cancer nurse! They are so dang CUTE! And strong! I just want to sit around with them and play and absorb all that cuteness and strength! What do I have to do to invade their private lives all summer to gratify this urge in myself to play with cancer kids?? Because I really want to be a kids cancer nurse! It looks so fun!

"Nursing is slave labor!"

Perhaps I am overly touchy when people equate nursing to slave labor, but I really want to leave the following reply:

"You are being paid for the work you do. Unlike a slave, you are free to quit your job. And guess what? Your former boss will not be sending the dogs or the posse to hunt you down when you stop showing up to work. You got it? Stop being dramatic!"

Specializes in MICU, SICU, CICU.

Report means that one nurse speaks and one nurse listens.

It is either your job to be prepared to speak or your job to listen and not interrupt.

Now how hard was that?
