My first week of nursing school this week and so far it's been great. The teachers seem really excited and proud of not only the class they have but also their program. They boast about their pass rate almost every lecture. They are seem very helpful in all the settings. I even got a study group together the first day of class and so far we've studied every day this week. This is the first time I have felt like I've accomplished and learned something in a study group.
I've gotten my books and lectures organized so I know what I'm doing day to day and I'm still very excited and nervous about being in school. So far so good though..I have no complaints......................................................yet.:)
How was your first day/week/month/year of Nursing School!!!!!!?
My first week is over too. I can finally breath a little. They have cramed in so much information I think my head will explode. Thank God for little things, like tape recorders.
I believe I am finally organized though, and it is getting a little better. We had a test on the first day, lots of lecturer and handouts, supplements to go with handouts. Progects to get done. Things like community service, papers to write two so far, I have already done one on a drug from the Davis drug guide, not too bad. I had a lot of videos to watch four so far. In lab we learned vital signs. Yesterday I learned how to take blood pressure. Today we had a lecture with OSHA, then some more lab. So I finally got through the first week.
My weekend will be catch-up and get a head if possible. I have LOTS of readings to do, study guides, objectives all to get me on track with this week. Saturday & Sunday I am going to try and get a feel for the chapters to come. We will cover 9 chapters next week, plus two extra in lab not counting more videos too watch.
All in all, I AM LOVING IT!!! Yes it is hard, yes there is alot to do, and holy crap at all of the paper, but so far I am loving every minute. They have been telling us to just give it a few weeks and we will get the feel for things. It takes some time to get use to the routine and what all has to be done.
I hope everyone is loving their first week too.
We only went took the NET test on Monday(which doesnt count against us),
Why did they have you take it when you're already in? I know it didn't count, I'm just wondering why.
I start Tuesday. This week I had CPR for healthcare professionals. I passed my written test no problem, saved all the dummies, and finally learned what a defibrillator was and how to use it.
My 3 year old is stacking all my books on the bookshelf for me (he's VERY orderly), and couldn't find a place for my fundamentals book. He keeps saying "Mommy, we need to get a bigger shelf for that book". :chuckle
I can't wait until Tuesday! Everyone, keep filling me in!
Why did they have you take it when you're already in? I know it didn't count, I'm just wondering why.I know I thought it was weird to because the other schools I applied to required us to take it before we got accepted. They based their acceptance on the NET scores. Believe me I didn't mind not having to take the test. My application consisted of..well and application..oh and I had to write an essay about why I wanted to be a nurse. During orientation they told us that 300 people applied and they only took 107 this year. I would have liked to have been in the room where they read everyone's application to see what made me stand out from 300 other people. I happy to be there anyway. It's one of the best Nursing Programs here in Georgia. 95+ pass rate every year on the NCLEX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We had a test on the first day,
I've gotten more and more mail from my college this week, and found out WE have a test the first or second day also - a nursing math exam! They did tell us it was "almost" right out of the Nursing Calculations book we have, so 3 weeks before school, I'm studying like a mad-woman! :chuckle
I know they say "don't unwrap your books because once you do, no returns" but I unwrapped my BIG nursing procedures book and guide "Fundamentals of Nursing", and am enjoying it. I was up until 3am reading it last night.
I'm excitednervousscared for school to finally start!
My nursing school was sweet enough to send us out 2 pages of assignments (and they managed to fit a lot of assignments on those pages!) to be completed before we arrive on day one. In addition we've been encouraged to study the handbook... anybody smell a quiz? and be ready for a dose comp test on day 4. No, they don't plan to teach it to us, but hey they've added a $40 dose comp book onto our list for our leisurely perusal over the next few weeks in preparation for that exam. I love it already!
I really do, I'm such a nerd!
Well, I'm glad to see that I am not the only one OVERWHELMED with information. This isn't like ANYTHING that I have ever done before. The only way I'll make it through this semester is with organizational skills and JESUS! I wish you all the best of luck. We had to read about 5 or 6 chapters over the summer. Well, they covered that material all within the first day of class!!!!! Soooo, I thought that I was ahead of teh game but soooooo quickly how I've opened my eyes.

Remember, you can always sell your books online and get quite a bit for them. I buy mine online, then sell them and get about the same amount back. It's almost like I'm renting them. :) I ordered the wrong book for my hubby by mistake, and we would've had to pay to ship it back, plus being charged a 15% "restocking fee". :angryfire So I sold it on ebay and made more off it than I paid for it. :) :) Only problem now- I'm afraid to sell any of my nursing books back, thinking I'll need them for reference later!
:rotfl: Me too!I'm very afraid. . .I start on Tuesday.
I am working on my reading because exams start almost immediately-my weak area is math so I want lots of time to study that which is why I'm working towards getting ahead reading wise. I also have a week coming up when we have 5 chapters to get under our belt on the nursing process, so I'm working towards that.
Need to get my house nice, clean and orderly before all H*** breaks lose this week! LOL! :rotfl: :rotfl:

My first week is over. It was overwhelming, exciting, and demanding, but I feel like I will enjoy it once I get the schedule (of all things) down pat. I found that organization skills are a MUST!! I thought mine was great-thought. Anyway, we have only had lab 115 thus far and I am started the 2nd of 3 A&P classes. Monday will begin all of nur 116 and the theory portion of 115. We do not start any clinicals until the end of September-I can't wait!! I wish each of you the best and remember we CAN do this after all we have come this far and that in its self is no easy task.
God Bless
Mim:)
P.S. remember ALL things are possible with the LORD!!!!!!!!!!
