I thought this was an interesting discussion that happened to pop-up on a certain social media site. How many of you conceal carry? And what do you think about prohibiting firearms on hospital property?
I think with the increasing violence these days, safety is a major concern for everyone. How do you protect yourself and still abide by the rules set by your facility?
You are funny. . .!But I think the term, "pro-choice" is disingenuous. Because, a pro-life person will say, "you made your choice when you chose to have sex now you have to deal with the consequences." I can see the logic in that sentiment, but my issue if a person is going to act like an animal and not able to control their hormones, treat them as such and allow them to abort an unwanted fetus the way we control pet populations.
As an aside, and off topic, but I have had the following discussion with buddies and most all love it!
SO, my health care plan would be, abortion anytime anywhere no questions with cases involving a minor we keep the DNA evidence for going after what may be a predator rapist out there. Better yet, the government will pay the gal to have the abortion. A few hundred bucks. Even better, if the woman opts to get sterilized, we pay her a few thousand dollars with a graduated decrease till the woman hits menopause. With men? We pay them a couple thousand dollars to get free sterilization. We would have to tattoo a small symbol on the perineum though so that if they go to a doctor to reverse it, the doctor will not be legally allowed to do so until the guy reimburses the government for the sterilization procedure and money. Such information should also be in a medical chart, but just in case the tattoo.
I subscribe to Malthusian economics and think this is a beautiful plan (though I know it may need a few tweaks, etc). Talking it over with buddies, they think I should run for office. Just think, in a generation, we can literally turn this country around without hurting anyone but "helping them." Anyone who has seen that movie "Idiocracy" would know, my plan has merit.
Yea, yea, we get it. You're irreverent. Did you read A Handmaid's Tale this year in 9th grade, or in Jr. High?
I've changed my mind about carrying a gun. I think I will carry a gun...then I won't have to worry about what to say.I get completely tongue tied when I get angry, and can'think of what words to use! So I'll just pull out my gun and say...."maybe you want to rethink what you just said to me", or even, "you are making me very angry", as I point my gun at that person....I think that will get my feelings across when my words fail me!
You are proving my point completely!
Thanks!
That said, the argument I favor most that shows why crime rates have gone down over the past 40 years is abortion.
It's pretty messy science due to the number of confounding variables. For instance, switching from leaded to unleaded gasoline also strongly correlates with the decrease in crime, and has been proposed as a contributing factor. A couple of economists from the Fed (Foote and Goetz) have disputed Donohue and Levitt on the only grounds one can refute (or even argue) complex social data: the method of statistical analysis. In a series of comments, counter-comments, and counter-counter-comments, D&L and F&G have both shown that whether you find a significant result depends on how you run the data (total arrests versus per capita, etc).
I tend not to hang my hat on any one theory simply because the data itself is so complicated and the number of factors that could affect any single measure are virtually innumerable. But then, I'm not very funny, either.

If you have a better plan for when you thought to yourself something along the lines of the following:
"Where were the parents?"
"I feel for those kids."
"Why are they having children when they cannot even take care of themselves?"
"Crazy."
I can accept that my idea may be a bit out there, but honestly, the buddies I have shared this with tend to agree. Their gut reaction was, "why should we fund abortion?" etc. I told them, an abortion is what, a couple thousands bucks vs. the hundreds of thousands dollars not to mention the untold incalculable crime the odds say these kids will invariable will commit.
My whole point is, yes, I am completely for people's right to bear and carry arms. It saddens me a bit though that we live in a society that people feel they must arm themselves to protect themselves. I much rather live in a society that has that option however due to society being so safe and secure that right is seldom practiced. I am a very peace loving, people loving man.
The media tends to highlight the worst of the worst. Their agenda is story telling. You do need to be cautious but real life is not as terrible as the media reports. One reason why I've quit watching the news.I used to live in Toronto. I've lived in some upscale neighborhoods as well as the inner city red light district for years. If you paid attention to all the media reports, there's drive by shootings, stabbings, gang activity weekly in these areas. I've never had a problem, never thought about carrying.
I would be interested to read the reports that indicate crime increases when one is not allowed to carry firearms. Canadians don't carry guns and we aren't fearful or dying in the streets. Those types of reports are propaganda used to sell more guns.
Interesting considering I live near Vancouver and Victoria which have far more issues than the gun-laden states to the south.
Victoria and Prince George have immense crime problems and I didn't feel safe at all walking through the Big BC cities.
I laugh at holier than though Canadians regarding gun control, drugs, immigration or any other "American" problems when their own streets are no better if not worse.

I'm not sure where you live that you don't feel safe walking through BC cities... but there were 516 homicides in the entire country in 2014. There were 9 homicides in Vancouver (compared to 26 in Seattle). Victoria has a problem with parked cars being broken into, but it seems like a bit of a stretch to say their streets are "no better if not worse" than ours.
Also, we may have once been coworkers. Hi neighbor. :)

Mrs. RiskManager, the elementary school teacher, likes to tell her kids to 'use their words' when they are speechless with anger or frustration. I will tell her to do the same if one of the little darlings pulls a gun on her!
