Field Trips

We don't go on field trips here. If there is a student who needs meds, I set them up and send them along and the teacher gives it. Our one diabetic student has his mom go along on all trips. I enjoyed going along as a mom with my kids, so I'd kind of like to once in awhile!

Luckily our float nurse goes on the field trips, the only one I like was when I went with the band/chorus to Disney...That was a good one :)

I only enjoy the "fun" trips. The trips to the local heritage/history/train museum or Children's theater..not so much. Thankfully this year we were strongly encouraged to get the teachers of diabetic students trained to be the UDCA's so I wouldn't need to go on the field trips - budget cuts, wanted to cut down on paying for a sub.

I LOATHE field trips. I have to go on them as well. I get really sick on the bus all the time so I always sit there about to hurl, counting the minutes until we arrive at our destination. Our most recent field trip was apple picking and it was a super hot, muggy day. Our bus got lost and it was boiling hot on the bus. Several of the kids riding the bus, and I got sick. It was awful Our next rip won;t be for a few months thankfully.

i have to set up coverage for field trips. It irritates me because i am the only department so to speak that has to find their own coverage. The teachers that serve as chaperons just say that they are going and wipe their hands of it. I don't even go on most of them and i have to find warm bodies with nursing degrees to go on all these trips. I currently have 7 that i am working on

We don't go on too many... if they are fun ones I will go... if not I send the float nurse :)

I don't go on field trips either. Part of me wishes I did though...but I know that's a double edged sword!!

I'm with MHDURSE, I loathe field trips. If there is any chance I have to get on a bus I have to wear a scopolamine patch. I also like more structure than there is on field trips. It gives me the shivers just to think about it.

Yes! I also get sick anytime I go on the bus, I think that the reason I do not like it is because of the lack of structure. It is so much chaos.

That's nuts! You shouldn't be expected to find your own coverage-- you're not the one planning them!

Fortunately I don't have to go. I just pack the emergency meds for the food allergy and asthma kiddos. My diabetics have a parent chaperone.
