EC grads,
Post your year of graduation and your specialty/specialties. I'll go first:
I've been a Level II/III Neonatal ICU nurse since graduation in January '06.
Update 5/2018: I've worked for a large NICU since 2009 in bedside and education roles, and I've been a clinical instructor. I finished EC's MS program in nursing education a couple of years ago. I was recently accepted to the Ph.D. program at a state university.
Hi to all and again congrads:ancong!:
I just grad form LPN prog. Dec. 12, 2008, and is awaiting to take my boards. But I am anxious to go back for my rn as I know it will open up better opportunities for me. A lot of schools in my area still follow that waiting list agenda for the rn program even though you basically have finished 1 year already, or they take their students first or you have to go in on odd number years. I too was wary about online programs, but a nurse on one of my clinicals had told me about excelsior.
My first question would be what is a CPNE, their web address I couldnt
find it, and what about clinicals.
Thanks in advance to any info.
Take the time to search/browse the rest of this forum, and most questions will be answered. Also visit http://nursing.excelsior.edu and download info from the publications section about the ASN program, as well as the nursing viewbook. The CPNE is the clinical exam.
Good luck on your boards!
I graduated in September 2008 and was a Paramedic for 12 years. I currently work in a cardiac stepdown unit. Many of the other nurses are shocked when I am asked where I graduated from, in disbelief that I never did clinicals. I have had a little bit of difficulty adjusting to the hospital setting, but it's getting easier every day.
I am a EC grad who graduated Feb 20th 2009. I was an LPN for 16 months prior. I was offered 3 hospital jobs and will start working at a level 1 trauma hospital in Raleigh NC April 20th. I will be working on the neuroscience floor doing 3 12's and no weekends 7p-7a. EC was the best thing that has ever happended to me. I recommend the program to anyone who needs flexability in their schedule and if your state is EC friendly.
i am very excited to be joining this thread. i graduate next week on the 17th and i am just now a gn.... i currently work in a ltc center weekend doubles on 2 lock down units. i have been told that i have a big raise coming so i will stay at my current job for right now.
i'm right there with you. i also graduate on the 17th. currently work as a nurse tech in an er. will be going into a new graduate nurse internship in june. thought i would expose myself to other areas of the hospital to see if i find something better than the er. getting excited, but still waiting for my att.
I am wondering the same thing...I am an LPN and need 2 pre reqs for cc a&p II and micro.....But I have heard mixed reviews about EC so i would like some guidance....I live in orlando, and have been an LPN for a little over 2 yrs....IF anyone has any advise i would love it!

Hello, all. . . I am an Excelsior survivor too! Here's my story:
BA in 1997 (social sciences)
EMT in 1998
paramedic in 2001
Excelsior ADN in 2004
Excelsior BSN in 2007
and, class of 2011 for my MSN! I just got accepted to the acute care NP program at UMDNJ.
I only went back for the BSN because I wanted to join the Air Force, and I needed it for my commission into the Nurse Corps. But it gave me a more solid GPA than I had in my BA from the first time around, which is what gave me the courage to apply for the graduate program.
Excelsior changed my life.
